Alex de Minaur vs Jack Draper preview
10th-seeded Alex de Minaur will face 25th-seeded Jack Draper in the quarter-final of the 2024 US Open. De Minaur came to New York on the back of an injury he sustained in his Wimbledon fourth-round match against Arthur Fils. However, The Australian has shown signs of good form in New York so far.
The World No. 10 started his campaign with a four-set victory over local favorite Marcos Giron. He was much more at ease when he registered a routine win over Finnish qualifier Otto Virtanen in straight sets in the second round. The tenth seed played another tight four-setter to get the better of Dan Evans in the third round, bageling his British opponent in the third and fourth sets.
In the fourth round, De Minaur squared off against compatriot Jordan Thompson in a tense four-set battle. Even though the World No. 10 bagelled his opponent in the first set, Thompson came back quickly to take the second set. De Minaur managed to keep his composure and finish the game in the fourth set.
Jack Draper has been in sensational form at the 2024 US Open as he is yet to drop a set in the tournament. The young Brit has defeated Zhang Zhizhen, Facundo Diaz Acosta, Botic van de Zandschulp, and Tomas Machac in his four matches to book his place in his maiden quarter-final at a Major.

Alex de Minaur has fared well on hard courts in his career, winning seven titles on the surface, the last of which came at the Mexican Open this year, where he defeated Casper Ruud for the title. The Australian has an 18-7 record at Flushing Meadows, with his previous best result in 2020, where he lost to Dominic Thiem in the quarter-final.

Both De Minaur and Draper will be facing a seeded opponent for the first time at the US Open. For Draper, it remains to be seen if he can hold his composure on the big stage, and for De Minaur the challenge will be to mitigate any after-effects of any injury while facing a higher caliber player. The higher seeding makes De Minaur the favorite to win that match.
