Daniel Goddard plays the sinister Professor Dalton on General Hospital. Doddard's last daily soap run was on The Young and the Restless, playing Cane Ashby and his twin Caleb Atkinson. His Cane was last seen on the CBS soap in 2019. Meanwhile, the actor stepped away from the camera to work on his business ventures.
Returning to acting with the role of the professor with questionable actions, Daniel Goddard spoke with Woman's World about his latest small-screen engagement, as published on June 4, 2025. He claimed that his current approach towards his role has changed from his previous habit of controlling the character. He said:
"I wanted to control the process, but in real life, you wouldn’t know who is talking about you behind your back or what was coming. It’s taught me to let go. Now, I’m trusting the process and allowing it to play out."

On General Hospital, he has some of the alums from Y&R, such as Genie Francis, Steve Burton and Tristan Rogers, making him feel comfortable.
"There’s all these deep connections that make it feel eerily comfortable, but at the same time eerily surreal...it feels like everything’s coming full circle."
He shared that his General Hospital experience differs from that on The Young and the Restless in many ways. The most prominent was how much the actor was allowed to know about his character.
As he told the media house, actors get the whole script on Y&R for them to figure out the character and know where the arc is going. Contrarily, GH production hands out only the pages where the actors have a performance. As such, other references to the character remain unspecified. This helps the actor to play out the character as close to real-life events.
A brief look at Goddard's Dalton on General Hospital
Daniel Goddard was first seen as Professor Henry Dalton on April 15, 2025, as he asked Emma to apply for the position of summer research assistant. While he showed unexpected partiality towards Emma, he ignored Josslyn's interest towards the same spot.
However, the professor was introduced to the General Hospital fans in January 2025 through references, starting with Emma informing Gio that she liked the professor's Environmental Physics class. This was soon followed up by WSB's Vaughn asking Josslyn to take up Professor Dalton's classes and secure the research assistant's chair.
As his arc moved forward on General Hospital, various sides of Henry "Hank" Dalton's character kept coming out. When Commissioner Anna learned that Hank Dalton worked in California before moving to Port Charles, she was concerned. She connected Dalton with Emma's past in Berkley. As such, she asked Jason to look into Dalton's past on Thursday's episode, dated June 5, 2025.
Meanwhile, Josslyn stole Emma's project to grab the assistant's position. However, recently, Dalton met Emma at the Metro Court Pool and promised to meet her to discuss their further collaborations. Incidentally, he looked very taken in by Emma's bikini looks, as Gio noted.

A glance at Cane Ashby of The Young and the Restless
Goddard played Cane for almost 12 years. The popular character was brought back into the storyline despite having been killed off in 2011, on public demand. Initially introduced to Y&R fans as Jill and Phillip II's son, his birth story was later retconned as the son of Genevieve and Colin Atkinson.
His notable romantic connections were with Amber Moore, Chloe Mitchell and Lily Winters, with the latter being the mother of his children, Charlie and Matty Ashby. Initially, a sharp and ruthless personality, Lily's influence tamed Cane into a more moderate, loyal and likeable person.
However, his exit arc from The Young and the Restless involved forgery by his father, Colin. Together, the father-son duo were charged as co-conspirators for a $2.4 million inheritance stolen from Katherine's fortune, signed away by Devon. Cane claimed to have been set up by Colin and left Genoa City to bring his father back and clear his name.
