Actor Joshua Jackson wrote a letter to ex-wife Jodie Turner-Smith, objecting to their daughter being away from him. Citing the letter written by the Dawson’s Creek star in May 2025, US Weekly relayed that the note was used as evidence in the estranged couple's ongoing custody battle.

Last month, Jackson filed a motion requesting an emergency custody order modification over allegations that Jodie enrolled their daughter, Juno, in a new school without his permission.

He claimed that the new school lies outside of their agreed-upon 45-minute commute from his home.

Joshua Jackson requested that she remain enrolled in her current school and that both parents approve any future changes to their daughter's schooling (essentially the decision is to be made jointly).

The actor began dating Jodie Turner-Smith in 2018, and the pair were married in August 2019. A year later they welcomed their daughter, Juno, who turned five this April.

However, they separated in October 2023 and finalized their divorce in May 2025.

"At this age 4 weeks is an eternity to her"—Joshua Jackson about Juno not seeing either of her parents for a long time

Joshua Jackson filed his motion for emergency custody order modification on May 30. According to US Weekly, the actor lost his home during the LA wildfires earlier this year, thus moving into a temporary home.

However, the school his ex-wife Jodie Turner-Smith chose for Juno is much further from this place.

The petition included a letter written by the Fringe actor, detailing his issues with Jodie's terms. This included her wanting to take their 5-year-old to London for five weeks, where she is set to film her TV show.

According to the outlet, the actor was on board with some of Jodie's requests but was against Juno not seeing either of her parents for a long time.

"At this age 4 weeks is an eternity to her," Jackson wrote.

Jackson agreed that Juno could be with Jodie anytime the actress was able to return to LA while shooting in London.

Notably, in his legal filing, Joshua Jackson claimed her ex didn't think Juno's education required "a fixed location," adding that she could learn remotely.

Reflecting on his experiences with on-set tutors as a child actor, Jackson asserted that a "traditional school" was better, writing:

"Even in the best case it cannot begin to provide a child with the same nurturing and enrichment, peer relationships and social skills that a classroom and school community environment provides."

Jackson added that the five-year-old was "flourishing" at her current school.

Elsewhere in the letter, Joshua Jackson objected to Jodie taking Juno on a trip to Morocco.

He noted that he needed more information about their travel plans, including dates, places, hotels, security, and even her work schedule.

Joshua Jackson acknowledged that the mother/daughter relationship was of huge importance, especially in the case of biracial parents. He noted that he was "willing" to educate himself, adding:

"I recognize that there are areas of Juno’s experience that I cannot touch or speak to from my own experience."

He continued:

"I hope you agree that the father/daughter relationship is also of huge importance."

The estranged couple settled their divorce in the first week of May, agreeing to share joint legal and physical custody of Juno. It is worth noting that, as part of their terms, Jackson will also give his ex two payments of $133,333.

Further, he will pay $2,787 every month in child support (the amount would change based on his income).
