The Breakfast Club co-host Charlamagne Tha God recently claimed that award shows should handsomely pay streamer Kai Cenat to livestream their ceremonies to reach a wider demographic. This came after Cenat's livestream at the 2025 BET Awards was filled with viral moments, including his encounter with rapper Wale.
During the June 10 episode of The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne and his fellow hosts discussed Kai Cenat's appearance at the BET Awards. Amid the discussion, the radio host made the proclamation that award shows should pay Cenat at least six figures to livestream the event from backstage and during the ceremony.
"All you award shows are bugging if you don't pay Kai Cenat high as six figures to livestream your award shows from backstage. Whatever money you're spending on promotions and marketing for a bunch of stuff that people don't see, you better spend with that demographic," he said.
Charlamagne added that he became aware of many of the recent award shows, like the American Music Awards and the BET Awards, because of Kai Cenat's streams.
Exploring Kai Cenat's appearances at recent award shows
Kai Cenat was invited to the 2025 Grammys, held at the Crypto.com Arena in February. According to Billboard, he recounted meeting Jay-Z, Beyoncé, and Blue Ivy Carter at the show in his Twitch stream following the ceremony, claiming the rapper gave him his phone number.
“This is fake. I don’t know what’s going on no more. This sh*t so crazy, bro. … It was so crazy that Blue Ivy knew exactly who I was,” he said.
The streamer was a presenter at the 2025 American Music Awards, held at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas on May 26. Cenat went viral for various moments throughout the show. This ranged from his reaction to Renée Rapp's performance to SZA giving his Streamer University a shoutout during her acceptance speech for Favorite Female R&B Artist.
Kai Cenat also had a minor spat with a fan for interrupting his livestream to praise Kanye West. According to Vibe, the streamer was approached by a fan accompanied by her father. Cenat's face seemed less than thrilled when the fan's father appreciated Ye for being "outspoken," and he replied:
“This is what I’m gonna say: I think I want to protect my energy, so I’mma politely ask you get out of here, cuz.”
Another viral moment from the AMAs was the streamer's seeming dismay at Eminem winning Favorite Male Hip-Hop Artist amid contenders like Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and Tyler, the Creator. In his livestream, Cenat expressed his surprise at the Detroit rapper taking home the award, saying, "I f*ck with Slim Shady but let’s be real.”
Kai Cenat went viral for his interaction with Wale at the BET Awards
Kai Cenat's livestream of the recent BET Awards was also filled with viral moments, including two encounters with rapper Wale. In the first encounter, Cenat ran into the rapper in the parking lot ahead of the ceremony and seemingly did not recognize him as Wale greeted him.
The clip of the interaction, which went viral, showed Cenat mispronouncing the rapper's name as "Wally" after his chat recognized him.
In the second interaction, Kai Cenat and Snoop Dogg were seen in conversation when Wale approached the pair and told the streamer that their earlier interaction made him "look crazy right now," to which Cenat replied, "My bad, bro." Both clips went viral on social media and were heavily discussed about who was in the wrong during the encounter.
The rapper also addressed the situation via an Instagram comment on a Shade Room post, claiming he was "really confused" after Cenat didn't recognize him as they had both played together during a celebrity football game in 2024. According to Billboard, he added that he was unaware he was being filmed both times when he spoke to Cenat, writing:
“This is crazy. I didn’t know we was bein filmed both times..we played in a celebrity football game last year… I was reallly confused."
Additionally, a clip of SZA introducing Kai Cenat to Kendrick Lamar at the BET Awards also went viral. Cenat also greeted Lamar backstage with a quick hello and handshake. This came after the streamer had publicly spoken about his good rapport with Drake, including the recent news of him directing the Canadian rapper's music video for Somebody Loves Me.
Kai Cenat's mini interview with The Shade Room on the red carpet of the 2025 BET Awards also went viral after the streamer accused the media company of being "messy" with their articles and posts about DDG and his former partner, Halle Bailey. For the unversed, DDG and Bailey had each filed for temporary restraining orders [TROs] against the other within weeks of each other.
On June 5, The Shade Room had falsely reported that a judge had denied DDG's TRO against Bailey. However, the outlet soon rectified their mistake and reported that the rapper's TRO was partially granted.
