Rapper and streamer DDG recently criticized The Shade Room for allegedly tearing down Black men. He also reacted to fellow streamer Kai Cenat's show of support during an interview with the media company at the BET Awards red carpet on June 9, 2025.

For context, Cenat accused The Shade Room of being "messy" in its reporting on the legal battle between DDG and Halle Bailey. The ex-partners have accused each other of assault and filed for temporary restraining orders (TROs) against each other within weeks. The legal dispute also includes the custody of their 18-month-old son, Halo.

In a recent livestream following the BET Awards, DDG reacted to a clip of Kai Cenat calling out The Shade Room for its coverage. The rapper, whose real name is Darryl Granberry Jr., accused the outlet of spreading a "fake statement" and attempting to "tear Black men down."

"They say a court of law, but y'all spread a fake statement for a whole day straight. Y'all are messy, bro. Shade Room, y'all couldn't pay me to support y'all. Y'all couldn't pay me a million dollars to f**k with y'all. I hate when y'all post me. I used to be like, 'Damn, I like Shade Room.' But now it's like, y'all tear Black man down every day," DDG said.

DDG's comment about the "fake statement" likely refers to The Shade Room's initial false report that a judge denied his TRO request against Halle Bailey, which was filed on June 4. The outlet later amended the article, reporting that the judge had granted parts of the TRO.

During the livestream, the rapper also claimed that tearing down Black men has seemingly become The Shade Room's core content, continuing:

"That's like the main f**king core content that y'all have, like, 'How can we tear a Black man down further and further?' That s**t is weird. You're supposed to be uplifting Black people, but I don't see you posting no other race in a negative light, only Black men.

This is not the first time Granberry has criticized The Shade Room amid his legal troubles with his ex-girlfriend. In another livestream, the rapper called out the media company for repeatedly posting about him after it shared videos and articles of India Love dancing on Granberry during Kai Cenat's pool party on June 10.

Exploring DDG and Halle Bailey's legal battle

The legal battle between Halle Bailey and DDG began in May after The Little Mermaid actress filed for a temporary restraining order against Granberry, citing abuse and violence. She accused her former boyfriend of hitting her head against the steering wheel during one instance, alleging it was one of "multiple acts of physical violence" she endured during their relationship.

"Throughout our relationship, Darryl has been and continues to be physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially abusive towards me. I am seeking orders to protect myself and our son Halo from his ongoing abuse," the petition stated.

It continued:

"We fought each other, wrestling and tussling. At one point, Darryl was pulling my hair. He then slammed my face on the steering wheel, causing my tooth to get chipped. I then stopped fighting back as I was in a lot of pain."

The judge granted her the TRO, including giving her sole custody of their 18-month-old son, Halo. On June 4, DDG filed a counter-petition, requesting a TRO against Bailey. He also requested an emergency hearing to restrict the actress from traveling internationally with their son after Bailey was scheduled to leave for Italy for a film shoot on June 7.

In his petition, Granberry claimed Bailey posed an "imminent emotional and psychological risk to the minor child based on repeated, documented threats of self-harm." The court documents included pages of alleged text messages between him and Bailey. According to Complex, one alleged message from the actress read, "U KNOW IM ACTIVELY SUICIDAL AND STRUGGLING."

The court allows Halle Bailey to travel with Halo

DDG's request to restrict Halle Bailey from international travel with their son was rejected a day after it was filed. The order read "request for an order prohibiting (Bailey) from traveling outside the United States with the parties' minor child (Halo) is denied."

According to USA Today, the ruling was made due to "insufficient evidence of imminent emotional and psychological risk to the minor child during (Bailey's) business trip to Italy."

However, the court reportedly granted DDG's TRO request against Bailey. The streamer's lawyers commented on "the inaccurate media reports" of the request being denied via a statement to The Mirror US, saying:

"We are aware of inaccurate media reports suggesting that Mr. Granberry was denied a restraining order against Ms. Halle Bailey. This is categorically false. The Court granted Mr. Granberry a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) based on the serious allegations set forth in his application."

Meanwhile, Halle Bailey recently responded to DDG's motion, which accused her of putting their child in danger due to her alleged repeated threats of self-harm.

According to Billboard, the actress stated that DDG “has exaggerated, lied and misconstrued for the court, not only the history of our relationship, but our parenting and my mental health." She added:

“I have been very vocal about my anxiety, depression, and previous thoughts of suicide. Without waiving the psychotherapist-patient privilege and physician-patient privilege, I have reached out to my doctor and received treatment to address these issues. I have been and remain 100% available and capable as a parent to our son, Halo."

A hearing for both DDG's and Halle Bailey's respective temporary restraining orders is scheduled for June 24.
