Young Thug and Mariah The Scientist have been in a relationship for four years, staying together through the rapper’s recent legal troubles. However, according to Thug, their relationship nearly didn’t begin at all.
In a GQ Couples Quiz video released on June 4, 2025, the rapper, born Jeffery Williams, claimed Mariah had skipped out on their very first date. During the interview, he said:
“I don’t know what you wore on the first date because you stood me up. How about that? I don’t know what you had on.”
Mariah denied the claim, responding:
“This is crazy. No, I did not.”
The couple then moved on to recalling their actual first date, although they disagreed on the details. Young Thug claimed Mariah wore black to an all-white-themed event, while Mariah insisted she wore white with jeans, saying:
“My pants were kinda dark.”

Mariah was frequently seen visiting him in jail and publicly expressed support for him in interviews. She has also spoken about how their relationship evolved.
In an appearance last month on Complex’s Please Explain, Mariah described how Thug may have had a different approach to dating early on, saying:

Since his release on October 31, 2023, Young Thug has gotten back to work on his musical projects, and the couple is often spotted out and about as well. The GQ Couples Quiz is their latest joint media appearance.
