On Monday, Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson's wife Gina Carlson took to Instagram to share her reaction to the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kirk was fatally shot earlier last week during a public appearance at Utah Valley University.
In her story, Gina addressed the backlash she had received online describing some messages as “full of evil & accusations.” She explained that she did not wish to defend her sadness over the tragedy, writing that her grief was focused on the loss itself.
“I won’t be writing back any of your hateful messages to me. I feel sad that some of you have this much hate in your heart for me over this,” she wrote.
She further addressed personal attacks on her children and her faith, assuring followers that any of her children who identify as LGBTQ+ would be “the most loved & accepted kid in this world.”
“You decided who I voted for, brought up my children & their future sexuality, and threaten that I’m not allowed to “expose” myself as a follower of Christ. All because I’m sad that a Christian man was assassinated right in front of his children & wife.”
Gina also expressed empathy for the young man who carried out the attack acknowledging the grief his family must be experiencing.
“He was clearly unwell and my heart hurts for that kind of pain he was in,” she wrote.

Gina Carlson ended her post by urging people who disagree with her to simply unfollow rather than send hateful messages.
Carey Price’s wife Angela reveals how disturbed she was by the Charlie Kirk tragedy
Last week, Montreal Canadiens legend Carey Price’s wife Angela shared on Instagram how deeply the recent tragedy had affected her personally. In a series of heartfelt stories, Angela admitted that coming across graphic video footage of the incident left her shaken.
“The Charlie Kirk death was just so crazy. I accidentally, unintentionally came across the video on TikTok, and I just haven’t been able to get that out of my brain,” she said.
Angela shared that the disturbing images had affected her sleep and overall well-being.
“I’m not sleeping at night. It just, it shook me. So that’s why I haven’t been on here. Damn, it just feels heavy,” she added.
Earlier, Angela had shared her initial shock on Instagram describing how she gasped when she first saw the news.
“My heart aches for our country, where a difference of opinion can lead to such devastating consequences. I can’t stop thinking about his wife and children,” she wrote.
Her message reflected the broader response within the NHL community with several players’ spouses expressing grief and condolences. Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko’s wife Lexie called the events heartbreaking for Kirk’s family, while Islanders forward Matt Martin’s wife Sydney condemned the loss of “simple humanity.”
