American criminal defense lawyer Mark Geragos weighed in on the latest developments in the Blake Lively vs. Justin Baldoni legal battle during his appearance on the Hot Mics with Billy Bush podcast. In a clip from the episode, shared to X on June 12, 2025, Geragos addressed the apparent victory celebrations by Lively’s legal team following a major ruling in their favor.

"I’m really a little kind of perplexed as to the victory lap that Lively’s lawyers are taking…. But it really is premature," he said.

As per Variety, Judge Lewis J. Liman had dismissed Justin Baldoni’s $400 million defamation and extortion lawsuit against Blake Lively on June 9, 2025. As per the report, the judge ruled that Lively’s accusations of sexual harassment were legally protected and thus could not serve as the basis for a defamation suit.

Following the ruling, Lively’s lawyers issued a statement celebrating the dismissal.

"Today’s opinion is a total victory and a complete vindication for Blake Lively, along with those that Justin Baldoni and the Wayfarer Parties dragged into their retaliatory lawsuit, including Ryan Reynolds, Leslie Sloane, and The New York Times," Lively’s lawyers said.

While Geragos acknowledged that Lively's team had a "win" and were "obviously going to crow about it", he also emphasized that the ruling wasn’t the end of the road for Justin Baldoni’s legal claims.

During the podcast, Billy Bush echoed this sentiment, clarifying that while five of Baldoni’s nine claims were dismissed, four others remained viable.

"There are four claims that are still viable out of the nine claims that were in Justin Baldoni’s $400 million suit. He can still go forward with a bunch of breach of contract stuff and invasion of promise, invasion of privacy, and things like that," Bush explained.

As per The Hollywood Reporter article dated June 12, 2025, in the escalating legal feud between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, Lively’s legal team took a major step forward by issuing subpoenas to music executive Scooter Braun and his company, Hybe America.

According to People magazine, the subpoenas were formally served on Thursday, June 12, with a notice of intent sent to Hybe America on Tuesday, June 10.

Braun, who served as CEO of Hybe America—a subsidiary of the South Korean entertainment conglomerate Hybe Corp.—entered the case just two days after a federal judge in New York dismissed Baldoni’s $400 million countersuit. While Braun was not directly connected to the Blake Lively vs. Justin Baldoni legal feud, his longstanding friendship with Baldoni was well-documented.

Previously, Lively had filed a lawsuit alleging that Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, retaliated against her by leveraging social media narratives and running a smear campaign against her.

Melissa Nathan, who was brought on as Baldoni’s crisis publicist in the late summer of 2024, around the release of the film It Ends With Us, was named in that suit. Now, Melissa Nathan is the central figure of the subpoenas because Hybe Corp holds a financial stake in Nathan’s firm, The Agency Group (TAG)

In subpoenaing Braun and Hybe America, Lively's legal team appeared to be attempting to gather further information regarding Nathan and uncover how she was brought into Baldoni’s circle and what role Hybe and Braun may have played.

Additionally, both Lively, who subpoenaed Scooter Braun’s company, and Braun himself shared one notable connection: their link to Taylor Swift.

Swift was a close friend of Blake Lively and was previously subpoenaed in Lively’s legal battle against Baldoni. Swift was also engaged in a longstanding legal standoff with Braun after he acquired the master's copy of her albums in 2019.

As per the report, so far, there has been no statement from Scooter Braun or his team regarding this legal matter.

Although Justin Baldoni's lawsuit has been dismissed, he has until June 23, 2025, to refile some of his claims against Blake Lively. Meanwhile, Lively is still pursuing her sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit against Baldoni. The trial for this lawsuit is scheduled for March 9, 2026.
