Sean "Diddy" Combs' ex-lover, who is testifying under the pseudonym "Jane," returned to the court stand for the fifth day. The defense started the cross-examination on Tuesday and continued on June 11. CNN has been actively covering the trial, and in the June 11 episode of the podcast Trial By Jury, host Laura Coates was joined by Biggie's ex-lawyer, Perry Sanders Jr., to comment on Diddy's trial.

The host introduced Perry Sanders Jr., a renowned lawyer with a Juris Doctorate degree, as a defense attorney who managed "one of the most infamous estates in the entire hip hop world." Coates said this in reference to the Notorious B.I.G. Sanders had earlier deposed Diddy in the lawsuit connected to Biggie's death.

During their conversation, Coates asked Sanders if he believed that Diddy would do well if he had to speak as a witness in this trial.

"I don't know, but if he did, he should get up and go... I'm a criminal. I'm a felon... all that stuff, but I'm not all this other stuff. So take me like I am. I'm a criminal. I'm a felon... I got carried away between drugs, s*x and rock and roll and went too far, but I certainly wasn't trying to run a racketeering ring... If he got up and did that, there might be people that would believe," he said.

Sanders further shared his thoughts on the rapper's trial, recalling a trial he argued in where a jury acquitted a person of charges just because he did not commit the felony he was charged with, despite being a felon.

"I think that [the prosecution is] doing what they think is right. But that is the risk you run in this situation is that somebody gets up, does exactly that and then had a jury look at the facts, look at the law and go, you know, right, he is a felon for this over here, but he is not a felon for what he's being charged for here today. So not guilty on the charge today," Sanders said.

In the 17-minute, 50-second-long episode of Trial By Jury, host Laura Coates asked Perry Sanders Jr. why he deposed Diddy in the lawsuit related to Biggie's death.

"Because [Combs] was in the car in front of the car that Christopher Wallace was in when he was assassinated, and I was deposing everybody that came anywhere near that scene," Sanders replied.

Coates further said that she was intrigued by this ongoing trial, as many witnesses who came to the stand were "tangentially" linked to the alleged main group, which the government is calling a criminal group or "enterprise" under RICO laws. She further asked Sanders how Diddy's case was different from other similar cases.

"I think it's fair to say that if this is so different than the typical case where you've got racketeering activity, where there's a boss that is a puppeteer and controlling lots of people that are typically moving drugs or guns or something like that... It's a totally different deal than that... This is by far the most oddball racketeering case I think I've seen," he replied.

In the episode, Laura Coates raised eyebrows at the witnesses who have filed civil lawsuits against Combs or are planning to do so. She pointed out that the defense was using this to weaken the credibility of witnesses. Coates also asked for Sanders' perspective if he were the civil attorney handling lawsuits against Combs.

"If the lawyers that have sued [Diddy] are dying for him to testify, I'd be shocked. And they might even be dying for them to get off on the most serious thing, make sure he keeps the lion's share of his money and then, then get to take their civil cases forward because their obligation is to their individual clients," Sanders replied.

Diddy is facing federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges on five counts. However, the rapper has denied all the allegations.
