Ryan Reynolds to feature as a narrator in National Geographic's Underdogs

Ryan Reynolds has taken up the narration for National Geographic's docuseries, Underdogs. With his expertise in giving voiceovers, the actor will guide the viewers through wild corners, narrating the lives of some unique animal species.
While the animals covered in the series remain aloof from the spotlight, their actions and living styles stay out of the box, making them the 'underdogs' of the jungle.
Ryan Reynolds will be heard as the narrator for all five episodes of the series. Each episode covers a distinct behavior pattern and varied, uncommon animals falling into that category.
From superpowers to questionable parenting styles, Ryan's narration will make these special and lesser-known animals stand out to the audience.
Talking about his experience as a narrator for Underdogs, Ryan spoke to TV Insider in detail. He extended his gratitude to National Geographic for making him a part of this project and said:
"Having a show to watch that I’m a part of with my family, it’s a privilege. I never take that for granted, not for a second, that I get to do that. That feels like a super power. I’m very grateful to National Geographic for not only making this show, but allowing me to make it with them."
Ryan's witty remarks, punches, and detailed descriptions in the narration stand as one of the major highlights of the show.
Courteney Monroe elaborated on the narration and the actor's participation with Adweek and said:
"Ryan’s voice brings a tone that’s clever, culturally fluent, and just the right amount of unfiltered. It allows us to explore nature’s stranger side without losing the sense of wonder or scientific integrity in which we’re rooted. And in doing so, we hope to cultivate a whole new generation of natural history fans.”
Ryan Reynolds opens up about the voiceover experience and favorite moments from Underdogs
Ryan Reynolds appears as a prominent voice cast in works such as The Whale (2011), Family Guy (2011-2017), The Croods series (2013 & 2020), Turbo (2013), and more.
With a significant voiceover experience, the actor shared his trick of understanding the audience for a better narration. Ryan told TV Insider in his interview:
"I think a strength you have with experience in this business is you learn that sitting in the audience is the best way to make anything. You really sit back and feel like you’re watching this show in real time. You think about what it is you would like to see at this moment?"
Managing his dual personas as Deadpool on one set and animal world guide on another was tough, but the actor shared that the Underdogs team helped him handle it well.
He shared with TV Insider:
"The first episode was tough because I was in the middle of Deadpool post. I was working 18-hour days, and it was just too much. So, they (team of Underdogs) allowed me to come back and redo the first one where I was just in a way better headspace to go full on."
As he discussed his favourite moments and aspects of the show, the actor also expressed his concern about the decrease in such content.
He stated:
"I think I live in a mild panic that resources like National Geographic, which I think are national treasures as I feel the same way with TCM, Turner Classic Movies. They are so important because they bring people together. I think we have fewer and fewer scarce resources in 2025."
Ryan Reynolds' participation in the special series dedicated to the unsung heroes of the wild brings a fresh and informative watching experience to viewers.
