Outlander season 7 episode 10 sees Claire receiving tragic news about Jamie's fate
The final moments of Outlander season 7 episode 10 saw Claire receive news from Lord John Grey and a man named Amias Ratcliff, Captain of the HMS Roberts. Together, they told Claire that the Euterpe, the ship Jamie sailed on to go back to America, was lost at sea.
A few scenes before this, Claire received a letter from Jamie, where the latter told her about visiting Joan at the convent and meeting friends of Mr. Franklin. He also told her that he was finally coming back to America in two weeks' time, and thinking that the letter was sent six weeks ago, Claire and young Ian thought that Jamie would arrive anytime soon.
Back to the news of Jamie's supposed demise at sea, Lord John Grey explained to Claire that the Euterpe lost with all hands. It means no one survived the catastrophe, including Jamie. Claire didn't believe it at first and angrily told John that she would have known if Jamie died because her heart would have stopped, too.

However, Ratcliff attested to the news, saying that he saw the Euterpe during the incident. The ship, he said, sunk in the ocean after a storm blew up. He mentioned a broaching wave swallowed the Euterpe, and it never turned back up. Despite days spent searching for survivors, he said there was none found. He also showed Claire the ship's manifest, pointing out that Jamie Fraser was one of the people who died.

Earlier in Outlander season 7 episode 10, Mercy confessed to Claire about being a spy, a courier, specifically, and what she does is deliver letters to the rebels. However, British soldiers are on to her, so Claire says that she will deliver the letters herself. One of the scenes in the episode showed Claire delivering a letter to a bird box in a remote location, but it didn't appear to be the only one she couriered a letter.
At Lord John's estate, Richardson handed him several letters that one of his men supposedly intercepted. In haste, John went to Claire's room and proposed that she marry him. Being a high official in the army, although retired, he told her that no one would try to arrest her if they were married.
While Claire was opposed to the idea, John told her that if they arrested and hung her as a spy, they would also hunt Ian and Rachel, among others. It gave Claire pause, seemingly thinking that marriage to John would help save the people important to her.
