The first episode centres on Sylvia planning Will's (Seth Rogen) engagement celebration for Jenna. However, the meticulously organised event spirals into chaos after a champagne glass is spiked with acid. That forces Will and Sylvia to take action, which leads to them missing most of the engagement party, which upsets Jenna.

This leads into episode 2, where Sylvia arranges a dinner gathering, hoping to strengthen her connection with Jenna. However, things go wrong at both the dinner party and dinner that Jenna and Sylvia decide to have to clear the air.

Season 2 of Apple TV+'s comedy Platonic continues the misadventures of Sylvia (Rose Byrne) and Will (Seth Rogen). The second season launched with a double-header with episode 1, The Engagement Party, focusing on Sylvia planning Will's celebration with fiancée Jenna.

However, things quickly descend into chaos when Will's friend spikes a glass of champagne with acid, forcing the two best friends to take action. They create a fake "tradition" to prevent guests from drinking and then secretly replace the alcohol, although the second part forces them to miss most of the engagement party.

Their extended absence raises Jenna's suspicions, with Sylvia worried she’s on the verge of losing her friend again. In episode 2, The Dinner Party, Sylvia attempts to strengthen her bond with Jenna after inviting Will and her to a dinner party at her house.

However, Will proceeds to make things worse by throwing Sylvia under the bus, falsely claiming they had previously discussed Jenna's elaborate wedding requests. Not only that, he then mocks Jenna about her stories about her childhood, which makes the remainder of the evening rather awkward.

The episode culminates with Jenna and Sylvia eventually deciding to go out to dinner to clear the air. Things go well at first as the two establish a rapport. However, the situation turns on its head when they duck into the bathroom to escape a diner.

Jenna admits that she was concerned about Sylvia and Will’s relationship, but now she realises that she has nothing to worry about because Sylvia is a regular old person. Sylvia laughs this off, but then Jenna delivers a sugar-coated insult, calling her "nothing", setting the stage for the season's central conflict.

What to expect from Platonic season 2 episode 3

Following the chaotic engagement party and awkward dinner in episodes 1 and 2, Platonic season 2 is bound to bring more chaos. The third episode will reportedly see the arrival of Will and Sylvia’s college friend for the former’s bachelor party.

With Will showing increasing signs of doubt about his upcoming marriage, the bachelor party will create the perfect environment for more tension. Furthermore, the episode will likely expand on Jenna’s words to Sylvia, how she feels about it, and how Sylvia decides to play things moving forward.

In the previous episode, she tells Charlie, her husband, that she doesn’t want to lose Will as a friend, which means that the likelihood of her not saying anything to Will will be high. Not only that, but the episode, or future episodes, will likely further expand on Will's questionable compatibility with Jenna, among other plot lines.
