10 best matches available to WWE for WrestleMania 34

WrestleMania 34 is going to be a big one
WrestleMania 34 is going to be a big one

Every single year we sit and fantasy book the biggest match possible for the grandest stage of them all – WrestleMania. Most of the time, as fans, we don’t get exactly what we wanted, but for the most part, we end up 70-80% happy with the finished product.

But given the expectations in place for WWE’s return to New Orleans, it’s fair to say that they really do need to knock one out of the park when they rock up to the Big Easy next April. So from celebrity appearances to rising stars, we thought that we’d take a look at some of the best options currently on the table.

We’ve tried to be as realistic as possible with our selections and while there may be a part-timer or two in here, for the most part, we’ve ensured that the stars of tomorrow receive more of a spotlight than those from yesteryear.

With that being said, here are our 10 best matches available to WWE for WrestleMania 34.

P.S: We know that the likes of Balor, Strowman and Joe don't make the cut here, but there's no stand-out match for any of them right now. They'd still be on the card, of course, but we're going for what we believe fans would be most invested in (for the most part).

#10. Asuka vs. Alexa Bliss vs. Paige

If you add Paige into this scenario, things could get quite interesting
If you add Paige into this scenario, things could get quite interesting

The common belief among fans is that Asuka should be walking out of WrestleMania 34 as the Raw Women’s Champion, and it’s hard to argue with that. As of right now, the champion atop the division is indeed Alexa Bliss, but as we saw last year she’s the perfect option for a heel champ heading into a big Mania title match.

If you add in someone like Paige, who has been on fire since leading the debut of Absolution, then you’ve got an underrated bout that could wind up being a show stealer. Some people may sigh at the idea of another multi-woman match, but so long as you build the story correctly, this could wind up being an interesting ‘power struggle’ kind of match.

#9. The Usos vs. Ambrose & Rollins

We should've seen it in November, now it's time to see it in April
We should've seen it in November, now it's time to see it in April

These two teams are the best in all of WWE right now, and the only duo that can dispute that claim is Sheamus & Cesaro. However, we’ve already seen The Bar square off against both of these teams, and it’s about time that we saw what should be considered a dream match within the realms of tag team wrestling.

We were supposed to see it take place at Survivor Series until the Raw titles changed hands, and now, we could finally get along build towards something that we all know would be beautiful. Many fans believe that The Shield is going to split once again in the lead up to Mania, but perhaps keeping them together is the best possible move right now.

#8. Bray Wyatt vs. Broken Matt

The Face of Fear vs The Broken One
The Face of Fear vs The Broken One

Bray Wyatt vs Matt Hardy is a match that we’ve already seen once or twice now on WWE television, but there’s been one key element holding their contests back: and we all know what it is. As we saw recently on Monday Night Raw, it seems as if Bray is going to be the catalyst behind Matt’s slow turn towards the ‘broken’ side.

If they build Broken Matt up over the course of the next few months then it makes all the sense in the world for them to claim that Wyatt was the one who pushed him over the edge, and it doesn’t take a genius to work out that the chemistry between these two characters would be absolutely sensational.

Just think of the promos, guys.

#7. Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns

Could Brock vs Roman 2 work?
Could Brock vs Roman 2 work?

Put down your pitchforks and attempt to disguise your keyboard warrior mentality for just a moment, because we’re starting to believe that this just may work. After all, the history between these two men is well documented given that they’ve already faced off for a World Title at the showcase of the immortals, and the rest of the work for this feud has already been done for them.

Roman’s road to redemption begins and ends with The Beast Incarnate, with WM31 being arguably one of the lowest points of his career – at least from a storyline perspective. With Brock being worn down by challenger after challenger, having Reigns come in to finally slay the Beast would create a number of interesting possibilities.

#6. Bayley vs. Sasha Banks

One more time
One more time

Bayley vs Sasha Banks is feud that deserves a decisive trilogy showdown, and while we’ve seen them face off a few times on Raw, that doesn’t even remotely compare to what the atmosphere would be like if they attempt to replicate their sensational Match of the Year candidate from Brooklyn two and a half years ago.

Both characters have evolved since then so you’d have to find a different angle in order to grab the attention of the WWE Universe, but let’s be honest with ourselves here, these two are absolute gold when they square off in a big-time match-up. Obviously, this would require a Sasha heel turn, but let’s face it, we’ve all been waiting for that for the better part of a year anyway.

#5. AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

From Japan to NOLA
From Japan to NOLA

What do you do with a problem like Shinsuke Nakamura? It’s an issue that has been plaguing the enjoyment of SmackDown Live for many months now, with WWE seemingly dropping the ball completely when it comes to booking Nakamura as a credible threat. Seriously, it’s been quite the fall from grace for The King of Strong Style.

So instead of trying to fix it by thrusting him straight back into the title picture, have him find that edge that made him so appealing in the wake of his sensational bout against Sami Zayn at TakeOver: Dallas. Nakamura needs to be a silent assassin and if we can get that side of him to shine through once again, then the grandeur of a WWE Championship match against AJ Styles is there for all to see.

#4. WWE Horsewomen vs. MMA Horsewomen

Can the MMA contingent work a good enough match?
Can the MMA contingent work a good enough match?

Having four non-main roster women competing on the main card at WrestleMania seems like an unfathomable idea, and yet, the battle for bragging rights between the WWE Horsewomen and the MMA Horsewomen is something that has been on the minds of fans ever since it was teased during the Mae Young Classic.

With Ronda Rousey leading the way you could tell a great story about all eight women involved in the match, especially given that two of the three members of Team MMA have ties to the business already. It could end up being a disaster but when you think about the mainstream appeal it would have, it’s certainly worth the risk.

#3. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn

Fight Forever
Fight Forever

Best friends turned bitter enemies turned best friends turned bitter enemies – you get the picture. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn is a feud that has captured the hearts of fans around the world for the better part of a decade now, with ROH, NXT and WWE all experiencing the magic of a grudge match between the men formerly known as Kevin Steen and El Generico.

Right now they're on good terms and are flourishing together as the stand-out performers on SmackDown Live, but we all know that won’t last. The culmination of this ongoing rivalry won’t come for quite some time, but nobody can deny that the next stop on the road needs to be in New Orleans for WrestleMania 34.

#2. Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins

There's unfinished business between these two
There's unfinished business between these two

When Seth Rollins turned on Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns three and a half years ago, many believed that it was too soon. The Shield were at the peak of their popularity and it all seemed to disappear before our very eyes, and yet, it wound up producing one of the feuds of the year in the form of Dean Ambrose vs Seth Rollins.

Now, it seems as if we’re gearing up for a repeat – but this time, it’ll be the Lunatic Fringe who turns to the dark side. It would lead to a Mania match that some will argue should’ve already happened by now, and if they tell the story right, we could be in for a No Holds Barred brawl that we’ll be talking about for years to come.

#1. John Cena vs. The Undertaker

We've waited years to see this
We've waited years to see this

Yes, we know that we said we’d try and keep the part-timers to a minimum, but try and tell us that you wouldn’t want to see this. Cena vs Taker probably should’ve been the main event of WrestleMania 33 and while The Deadman’s exit from the Citrus Bowl seemed like a farewell, it put the company in something of a lose-lose situation.

If they bring him back then it makes that moment feel redundant, and if they don’t bring him back then we’ll always feel the frustration of knowing that we weren’t definitively told one way or another whether or not this was Taker’s last ride.

We can fix one of those two problems, at least, by having Cena be the final man to take on The Phenom after one of the greatest careers in the history of our industry.
