Roman Reigns and John Cena

As 2017 comes to a close, a trip down memory lane seems inevitable. This year had its share of goodbyes and warm welcomes. Whether we bid a teary adieu to The Undertaker or greeted the monster among men, Braun Strowman, 2017 definitely had moments that made the WWE Universe smile.

Here are the top 10 moments from WWE that made us chant 'You Still Got It'.

#10 Usos vs The New Day rap battle

The
The rap battle got real personal.

Hosted by rapper Wale, this segment saw the two teams in a rap battle. The New Day were the winners, but it was The Usos who might've stepped out of line with this un-PGesque remark:

"Let's just keep it PG, you know what's good... don't get all Rated R like ya boy Xavier Woods."

This was a direct reference to Xavier's role in Paige's leaked videos and hence a rumour has started that this particular line might not have been scripted. Whatever the case may be, this segment was undoubtedly fun and at moments, brutally honest. This line from The New Day really seemed to hit the mark.

"Now, Jim. You and your brother, you’re tag champs. You turned the Universe into believers/But please always remember you were absolutely nothing until your wife put you on Total Divas."

#9 Miz and Maryse vs.John Cena and Nikki Bella

The Miz and Maryse face off John Cena and Nikki Bella

This feud is proof of why The Miz is one of the most valuable wrestlers in the WWE.

The way The Miz and Maryse ripped into John Cena and Nikki Bella during their promos, was not only entertaining but a case of brilliant acting. The Total Diva rip-offs were hilarious and we found ourselves agreeing with The Miz.

It was one of the rare occurrences where real life merged with shoots and promos, and the resulting heat was fantastic. The only sore point was Maryse's below average acting as Nikki Bella, but it was not enough to deduct greatly from what is undoubtedly some of the best heel work by The Miz and Maryse.

The only thing that could've made this feud even better was if The Miz and Maryse won the feud, but that was sadly cut short by a stale face win for John Cena and Nikki Bella at Wrestlemania 33.

#8 Roman Reigns vs John Cena's war of words

S
Standing there was all Roman Reigns could do in face of Cena's onslaught.

Not a heel promo. No. John Cena doesn't turn heel. Ever.

These promos did, however, bring out a side of Cena that has rarely been seen since his Thuganomics days. It was fresh, biting, and savage. He made Roman Reigns look like an amateur, and the promo was reminiscent of the Rock-Cena rivalry in its early days when John Cena was the newbie and The Rock was the reigning Superstar.

The only problem was that Roman's mic skills weren't strong enough to keep up with John Cena. The comebacks that could have been great, ended up being generic and monosyllable. If Reigns was a bit more skilled with the mic, this could have been comparable with the Cena-Rock feud. Instead, it ended up being a highly enjoyable but brief burial of Reigns' mic skills.

Here's a brief glimpse of some of the most savage Cena moments from 11th and 28th September of Raw:

#7 Shinsuke Nakamura's debut

S
Shinsuke Nakamura makes his way to WWE Raw

Former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Shinsuke Nakamura made his way to NXT in 2016, where he proved that he wasn't just a flash in the pan. On April 4th, Nakamura made his WWE debut.

His theme was already wildly popular with the audience and he was given a hero's welcome with the arena singing along as he made his way to the ring. His debut had all the energy of a hurling tornado and was fun to watch.

His wild and eclectic style only added to his appeal. His debut match with Dolph Ziggler may not have been his best match to date but the debut certainly had all the qualities of a great WWE Superstar in the making.

#6 Jinder Mahal becomes the WWE Champion

Jinder Mahal becomes WWE Champion

One word: "Unexpected"

This was the outcome nobody had predicted. It's rather a fairytale run to go from a 3MB jobber to the WWE Champion, and shockingly, Jinder achieved that this year.

His 2017 Championship win isn't just a personal achievement either. It has historical significance too. By winning the WWE championship, he became the first titleholder of Indian ancestry.

#5 Samoa Joe's debut

Samoa Joe attacks Seth Rollins

With the crowds going wild and chanting 'Holy Shit', Samoa Joe made his WWE debut by attacking Seth Rollins on Triple H's request.

The two-time NXT champion was quickly established as the biggest monster heel since Kane went corporate. In only two appearances, The Samoan Submission Machine went face to face with two members of The Shield, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, and came up trumps.

It was a great way to debut someone who could be presented as a great heel.

#4 Paige returns

Pa
Paige arrives at WWE Raw with Many Rose and Sonya Deville

This was an utter, complete surprise and a pleasant one at that. After the numerous things that went wrong between Paige and WWE, a return was hardly expected. Everything from her scandalous relationship, a devastating neck injury and two failed drug tests, pointed that Paige and WWE were through and she had burned her last bridges.

Were we ever so glad to be proven wrong? A year since she had last been seen, Paige made her triumphant return to WWE, flanked by Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. With a devious smile and a heel persona, Paige looked ready to claim back her place at the top of the mountain.

Arriving during a fatal-four way match, the three wrecked havoc and mayhem. It was not only a good return for Paige but a great way to debut Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville as well. The group, called Absolution, has dominated the Raw women's division ever since, making Paige, Mandy and Sonya top stars in the division.

#3 First ever Women's Money in the Bank

A
A historical moment for WWE

This would've been an epic entry in the list just because of its unprecedented historical status. WWE took another huge step towards validating the women's revolution when Smackdown manager Shane McMahon announced the first ever Women's Money in the Bank match.

This news was received positively and the match itself turned out to be a testimony to the amount of talent the WWE Smackdown women's division really has. Natalya and Charlotte Flair blew it out of the park in this match, with some of the best performances of their careers.

The match finish, however, ruined what could have been a perfect historical moment. A man helped win the first woman's ladder match. Despite that, the enormity of this decision and the quality of the match still cannot be diminished by bad booking.

#2 Return of The Hardy Boyz

The
The Hardy Boyz return at Wrestlemania 33

WWE has gotten into a bad habit of spoiling their own comeback surprises by posting content related to the returning Superstars. Despite that, this was still a very memorable return. When The New Day announced a surprise entrant for the Raw Tag Team Championship match, the fans hoped with bated breath. The time was right, and the location, the grandest stage of them all. It had been 7 years since The Hardys had last been seen in WWE, and it seemed almost too perfect a setup.

The cheers were one of the loudest that night when The Hardy Boyz's music finally hit, after a long build-up. One could almost see how emotional this return was for Matt and Jeff. The sentimental value of this moment can only be understood by fans who have followed The Hardy Boyz through the early days of their careers.

It was not only a nostalgic trip for the fans but a triumphant win for the brothers who have had to battle through addictions and injuries to reach this milestone. It seemed like destiny welcoming back The Hardys when they held the Tag Team titles at the end of the night.

#1 Kurt Angle returns to WWE

Kurt A
Kurt Angle gets inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame

The bad blood between Kurt Angle and WWE had the wrestling fans convinced that Angle would never make a return to the company. He had stated so multiple times in the past. When asked after joining TNA if he'd ever go back to WWE, he had replied:

"I found working for TNA and Dixie Carter that wrestling can be fun again. You don't get pressured into doing something you don't want to do. There's no politics involved in TNA. I can't really discuss WWE, but everybody knows what's going on up there. I saw room for growth for me as an individual or TNA."

The rumours that Angle planned to retire from wrestling in the near future only supported the common opinion that the WWE universe had seen the last of the Olympic gold medalist.

At one point of time, Angle had even stated that he planned to work at TNA forever. A lot can change in 11 years though and nothing could have made his fans happier than to see the Olympic hero come back to WWE as a Hall of Famer.
