#9 Rob Van Dam vs. Edge - Vengeance

A forgotten classic
A forgotten classic

Rob Van Dam had the makings of a great WWE Champion. He defeated John Cena for the title in a fantastic match and this would be his first title defence, and a great one at that. Alas, the reign was not meant to be due to Rob's... Extracurricular activities. Never the less, this is a highly underrated gem.

Some nice chain wrestling started this one off. Both men tie-up, Rob Van Dam was backed into the corner as Edge gave hard rights, but only to be reversed into the buckle, and a monkey flip to Edge but then Edge landed on his feet. Great sequence.

Edge on the apron and Rob Van Dam put his body at risk with a tremendous crossbody. RVD with a spinning leg-drop to Edge on the barricade but Edge was able to avoid the contact and RVD may have injured his hamstring. They got some good brawling in for a few minutes just after.

As RVD went for a frog splash, Lita tripped him up, leading to Edge to give him a stiff DDT, leading to a convincing nearfall. The end came when Edge set up a chair on the second turnbuckle, aiming to Spear RVD into it, but missed, met the chair with his head which laid him out, prime for a Five Star Frog Splash and three count for RVD to retain.
