#9 The Revival vs. DIY in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match for the NXT Tag Team Championships (NXT TakeOver: Toronto)

Tag team wrestling wasn't featured prominently on the early NXT TakeOvers. Teams like Ascension, Lucha Dragons and the Vaudevillains were given chances to stand out, but they were never in the best match of the night. That being said, The Revival changed this pattern.

Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson changed the game when they defeated the Vaudevillains to win the NXT Tag Team Championships. The Revival went on to put on consecutive bangers against American Alpha at TakeOver: Dallas and The End. Still, these contests just proved to be the tip of the iceberg of the tag team excellence that would soon be showcased on the black-and-gold brand.

This evolution continued shortly after Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa came into WWE separately and were forced to team up. The duo that would become known as DIY worked their way to the top and faced The Revival at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II. This contest was an absolute showstealer, and The Revival won the bout. The hard-fought clash set the stage for a rematch at the following TakeOver.

The Revival faced DIY in a two-out-of-three falls match for the NXT Tag Team Championships at NXT TakeOver: Toronto. The rematch was an excellent tag team contest with great nearfalls, a terrific crowd and stellar callbacks to their previous matches. The four men told a magical story of the heroes finally overcoming the villains when DIY made both members of the Revival tap out to win the gold.
