#9 NXT TakeOver: Toronto (2016)

On, November 19, 2016, NXT TakeOver: Toronto became the first TakeOver event to take place in Canada at the Air Canada Centre. This event featured one of the best tag team matches in WWE history and one of the best feuds in NXT history. Then-NXT Tag Team Champions, The Revival, defended their titles against their arch-rivals, #DIY.

Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa had failed to defeat the champions at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 2 in a show-stealing match. After Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder cost #DIY the 2016 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, they earned a rematch in a Two-Out-of-Three Falls Match.

In an epic encounter that still stands as one of the best in NXT TakeOver history, the two teams put on a great match, which featured all four men displaying chemistry that hadn't been seen in quite some time. The resilient babyfaces, #DIY, made the perfect counterbalance to the ruthless heels, The Revival. With the two teams tied at one fall apiece, the final fall featured callbacks to their previous title match and close near-falls. Ultimately, #DIY finally defeated The Revival, making both men tap out for the final fall.

The other big match on the card was another rematch from NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 2 as the NXT Champion, Shinsuke Nakamura, faced Samoa Joe. After a fierce and competitive main event, Joe defeated Nakamura to become the first two-time NXT Champion.

In the other big title match at NXT TakeOver: Toronto, Mickie James returned to challenge the NXT Women's Champion, Asuka, in an excellent match. This James' return showed that she still had a lot in the tank. It also led to her WWE comeback on the main roster, where she made a home on Smackdown shortly following this event. On the other hand, Asuka added another standout title defense to her legendary reign.

The opener for NXT TakeOver: Toronto featured two Canadian Superstars as Bobby Roode took on "The Perfect 10" Tye Dillinger. Dillinger had the Toronto faithful in his corner with "10" chants leading him to the ring, but his opponent famously outdid his entrance. Roode had an epic arrival complete with a choir to sing his theme song, "Glorious."

In the end, Bobby Roode was victorious, following a traditional yet well-worked babyface vs heel battle with Dillinger. Although the Dusty Rhodes Tag Classic finals between AOP and TM-61 failed to stand out, it was still skillfully executed as the Authors of Pain continued a dominant run on NXT.
