10 Greatest WWE superstars who never won The Royal Rumble Match

Winning the Royal Rumble match puts you in an elite club of WWE superstars. The Royal Rumble match is no easy task to win. Despite this, there have been a few of the greatest performers in WWE history who have never won the Rumble match. This list is purely my opinion. If I have left out anyone, then please voice your opinion in the comment section below.

Now, here is a look at some of the greatest WWE superstars to never win the Rumble match:

10. Mr. Perfect

Mr. Perfect
Many people believe that Mr. Perfect was supposed to be the winner of the 1990 Royal Rumble match

Many people believe that Mr. Perfect was supposed to be the winner of the 1990 Royal Rumble match, as he was going to be given a major push against Hulk Hogan. But, due to some backstage politics, that never happened. Hulk Hogan won the Royal Rumble match by eliminating Mr. Perfect in the end. He was always one of the best performers on the roster, and he certainly deserved one major push in his career.

In a perfect wrestling world, Mr. Perfect would have gone on to win the Royal Rumble match and become WWE Champion, but that is not the world we live in.

9. Mick Foley

Mick Foley
Mick Foley was always overlooked due to the popularity of The Rock, Steve Austin, and Triple H

Mick Foley was always overlooked due to the popularity of The Rock, Steve Austin, and Triple H. As a result, he was never considered a serious contender to win the Royal Rumble match. However, he was part of some memorable Rumble moments, most notable of which was when he made three appearances in a single Rumble as Mankind, Dude Love, and Cactus Jack. He always had good matches at the Royal Rumble pay-per-views, but a Royal Rumble win has eluded him his entire career.

8. Kane

Kane
Kane holds the record for appearances of all-time in the Rumble match

Kane holds the record for most appearances of all time in the Rumble match. However, ‘The Big Red machine’ has never won a single Rumble. His best performance was in the 2001 Royal Rumble match, where he lasted 53 minutes, eliminated 11 superstars, and became the runner-up. Kane also has one of the highest combined time in the Rumble at three hours, 38 minutes, and 46 seconds. He also holds the career record for the most accumulative eliminations. As of this writing, Kane has eliminated 44 superstars. That is a lot of records for someone who has never won the Royal Rumble match.

7. Andre The Giant

Andre The Giant
Andre participated in only two Royal Rumbles

Andre participated in only two Royal Rumble matches and unfortunately he didn’t win either one. He dominated the ring for a good 15 minutes before eliminating himself by climbing over the top rope when Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts threw Damien into the ring. Andre 'The Giant' couldn’t possibly last long enough to win the Rumble unless he entered at number 30. Even 15 minutes seemed like a big task for him.

6. The Ultimate Warrior

The Ultimate Warrior
His most notable appearance was in the 1990 Rumble match

The Ultimate Warrior also participated in only two Rumbles, but his most notable appearance was in the 1990 Rumble match which was a way for WWE to get Warrior over and set up the main event for WrestleMania VI.

Warrior entered as the 21st entrant in the Royal Rumble match and cleared the ring along with Hulk Hogan before the two finally went head-to-head. Warrior got thrown out several minutes later.

5. The Big Show (or The Rock)

Big Show and Rock
The Rock was declared the official winner of the match

This one actually depends on who you think won the 2000 Royal Rumble. The Rock was declared the official winner of the match, but Big Show provided evidence that The Rock’s feet touched the floor while he was eliminating The Big Show.

Therefore, I will leave it up to your judgement to decide who won that match. I will personally pick Big Show’s side, due to the fact that he provided evidence of his victory. However, this small blemish didn’t stop either man from having a long decorated career in the WWE.

4. Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle
A Royal Rumble win may be the only achievement that has eluded ‘The Olympic Gold Medalist’

Angle has been in three Rumble matches and has performed well in two of those matches. Angle was the runner-up in the 2002 Royal Rumble match, and he finished third in the 2004 Rumble match. However in 2005, he was eliminated within seconds, but that was because he had a championship match earlier in the night.

A Royal Rumble win may be the only achievement that has eluded ‘The Olympic Gold Medalist’, but he has come really close on a few occasions. It still doesn’t take anything away from a pretty stellar career.

3. CM Punk

CM Punk
CM Punk has always performed well in the Rumble matches

CM Punk has always performed well in the Royal Rumble match. There are rumors that Punk was supposed to win the 2014 Rumble match, but he was unceremoniously eliminated by Kane. This was also Punk’s last appearance for the company.

Apart from this, he had another notable Rumble performance. In 2010, he spent ten minutes clearing the ring, and even had time to preach a sermon on being straight edge.

Punk was never seen has a threat to win the Rumble match until 2014.

2. Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan
Fans expected Daniel Bryan to win the 2014 Royal Rumble match

Fans expected Daniel Bryan to win the 2014 Royal Rumble match, but when someone else entered at number 30, it was apparent that Bryan would not take part in the Rumble match. The WWE Universe became frustrated and started booing continuously; such was Bryan’s popularity. Again in 2015, Bryan was denied a win due to WWE’s pet project - Roman Reigns.

Daniel Bryan could never win a Rumble match because by the time he reached his peak, he was forced into retirement due to injury.

1. Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho
Jericho is the the greatest superstar to never win the Royal Rumble match

Jericho is the greatest superstar to never win the Royal Rumble match. However, he holds the record for the longest combined time in the Rumble match at 4 hours and 58 minutes. He has always performed really well in Rumble matches. He has never really come close to winning the Rumble match, but he has lasted an average of thirty minutes per Rumble appearance. How many men can claim that? He was never really a favorite to win the Rumble match, but that didn’t stop him from putting on great performances.
