YouTube has showcased some great WWE moments over the years

While some people may hate it as a platform, nobody can deny that YouTube has been an extremely successful platform for WWE over the last few years. From hosting highlight clips of Raw and SmackDown Live to putting up full-length matches from past pay per views, they certainly know how to market themselves – and their 20 million subscribers confirm that.

Of course, some clips are always going to be more fascinating than others, and it’s interesting to take a look inside the mind of casual WWE fans with lists like these. For example, The Hardy Boys’ return at WrestleMania 33 raked in over 23 million views, and it didn’t even crack the top 35.

A few of these may surprise you given how insignificant they seem to be from our perspective, but if anything, you should look at these figures are be proud of just how well WWE is doing at the moment across social media.

With that being said, here are the top 10 most viewed WWE YouTube videos of all time.

#10) Randy Orton Gets Personal With HHH – 37 million

For those of you who weren’t watching wrestling back in 2009, the feud between Randy Orton and Triple H was about as intense as you can get in this business. The heel Orton went after HHH’s family members as revenge for how The Game treated him a few years prior, and while the match between the two men at WrestleMania 25 wasn’t all that great, this segment certainly was.

As you can see above it involved Stephanie McMahon, who at this point, wasn’t the vicious heel that we all know and hate to this day. In fact, she wasn’t really that active on WWE television at all, which made Randy’s actions that night all the more shocking. It may not have been paid off very well at Mania, but this really did solidify The Viper as one of the best bad guys in recent memory.

#9) John Cena & Randy Orton vs. Raw Roster – 45.5 million

John Cena & the aforementioned Randy Orton were poised to be their era’s version of Stone Cold & The Rock, and while they may not have quite reached that level, they certainly had some intriguing segments and matches together. One of those bouts was this blockbuster showdown when they were forced to team up in order to face the majority of the Monday Night Raw roster.

It really did make the duo feel like the stars that WWE was telling the crowd that they were, and it gave us a glimpse into the future in terms of just how good Randy could be as a babyface. While we may not see this kind of storytelling anymore, you can’t deny that the visual of this match alone made it extremely fascinating.

#8) John Cena & AJ Lee Kiss – 45.6 million

At the risk of being tracked down by Mr Phil Brooks – AJ Lee certainly got around during her days on the main roster. We don’t mean that in a literal sense, by the way, we just mean that her on-screen character enjoyed the odd kiss or two with members of Raw and SmackDown.

One such example is John Cena, who became involved with AJ during a storyline that also included Money in the Bank holder Dolph Ziggler. The whole thing wound up leading to Lee joining forces with Dolph, but as you can see in the following video, they were still able to lock lips once or twice on WWE television for the world to see.

Whatever you do, don’t show this footage to Nikki Bella.

#7) Undertaker Returns & Confronts Brock Lesnar – 45.7 million

A few years back it became customary for fans to await the return of The Undertaker in the months leading up to WrestleMania. In 2014, pretty much everyone knew that The Deadman would be coming back in order to challenge Brock Lesnar, but that didn’t make this moment from Monday Night Raw any less special.

Seeing The Phenom and The Beast square off was something that the WWE Universe had been looking forward to ever since Lesnar made his return to the company in 2012, and it didn’t disappoint. Of course, the end result of this feud was Taker’s streak being broken by the current Universal champion, but we’ll try and forget about that for now.

#6) The Great Khali Debuts – 48 million

If you’re aware of who The Great Khali is or was, then you’ll understand why this was a big deal. The seven-foot monster is one of the most intimidating figures to ever step foot inside the squared circle, and when he made his presence known during this segment with The Undertaker, it shook the foundation of WWE. No, we aren’t kidding.

Khali’s debut was so dominant that many thought he was destined to become World Champion, and while that eventually came to fruition, his mobility in the ring left a lot to be desired. Still, this moment was clearly enough to get people talking given that it has garnered nearly 50 million views.

Unfortunately for WWE, that’s the kind of Indian drawing appeal that Jinder will never have.

#5) 20 Man Battle Royal For World Heavyweight Title – 51 million

Speaking of Great Khali and world championships, behold – one of the most bizarre title runs of the last decade. Essentially, the story goes that Edge had to vacate his World Heavyweight Championship and because of that, a tournament was held on SmackDown in order to determine the new holder of the prestigious belt.

As you can see it was The Great Khali who came out on top, and while it seemed like a good idea in theory, his lack of ability to do anything even remotely impressive in the ring held him back. Still, the guy had some upside appeal given his stature back in India, but for the rest of the world, his 61 days as champion were painful to endure.

#4) John Cena & Brock Lesnar Brawl – 55 million

Everybody loves a good brawl, and while they may have been a bit overused in the last few years, they were certainly much fresher back in 2012. Because of that, it was extremely refreshing to see John Cena & Brock Lesnar go at it on Monday Night Raw – especially when The Doctor of Thuganomcis got busted open.

It added that extra sense of realism to a feud that was already white hot because of Brock’s return, and while it was disappointing to see Cena win the eventual match at Extreme Rules, this was one hell of an impressive moment that WWE managed to pull off.

Also, if you haven’t picked up on it yet, it seems as if the more people that are involved in a segment equals more views. Odd.

#3) Rey Mysterio vs. John Cena – 56 million

Rey Mysterio and John Cena didn’t have anywhere near the number of matches against each other that they should’ve done, with this effort from 2003 being one of the rare occasions where they squared off on live television. Both men were in the early stages of their WWE careers, but that didn’t stop them from putting on a solid show for the fans on SmackDown.

The two were both out to make a name for themselves and in the present day, it’s obvious to everyone involved that this was the kind of work ethic they had throughout the majority of their careers.

In case you’re interested, they also faced off for the WWE championship just under eight years later.

#2) Cena, Batista & Mysterio vs. Orton, Jericho & Big Show – 63 million

Tribute to the Troops is always a special event for WWE because it allows the superstars to give something back to the men and women who protect the United States of America on a daily basis. Most of the time they stack the card to ensure a unique experience, and 2008 was no different.

This blockbuster six-man tag team match fully deserves the 63 million views it has received, because come on, just look at the names involved. All six of these gentlemen have held multiple world championships in WWE, and you could argue that all six will also enter the WWE Hall of Fame one day.

Go and watch this for yourself, because it’s well worth your time.

#1) 41-Man Battle Royal – 73 million

youtube-cover

We arrive at the number one entry and as we alluded to earlier, the WWE Universe sure does love a good battle royal. In this instance, the bout was a 41-man cluster from back in 2011, and the weirdest thing of all is that the stakes in this clip were nowhere near some of the other entries that we’ve already been through.

With that being said there’s a great deal of star quality on display in the match, and while it may be hard to keep track of at points, it makes for an interesting way to kill 34 minutes of your time.

Alas, as WWE continues to grow its platform on YouTube, we wouldn’t be surprised to see some of these entries be replaced over the next 5-10 years.
