Rusev's run in 2018 is absolute proof that no matter how popular you are and no matter how many times you get fans to scream, the company may never see you as anything more than a mid-card guy. Of course, WWE did give Rusev a world title shot this year against AJ Styles, but it was more of a stopgap than an actual feud

With that being said, WWE has kept Rusev in irrelevancy for so long that its hard to take him seriously anymore. It's almost the same thing as R- ruth. The fans love him and the fans love to see him, but the company never takes them seriously due to other superstars fitting the top role better.

In the end, it's not Rusev's fault that WWE officials are looking for something different in a top guy then what he offers, but the company is ruining him in the meantime. In fact, despite Rusev continuing to receive massive reactions from crowds, WWE continues to keep him stagnant or in feuds that hurt him more than help him.
