The title of being the greatest anti-hero in WWE’s history belongs to Stone Cold Steve Austin. The Superstar changed the way many viewers saw WWE in particular, and the world of wrestling in general, and helped the company make a lot more fans during the 2000s.

Some of the most well-known men and women in WWE such as Vince McMahon have declared Austin to be the biggest star in the company's history, even surpassing the popularity of Hulk Hogan.

McMahon had the following to say about Austin during an interview on ‘Off the Record with Michael Landsberg’ on June 1, 2004:

“He [Austin] surpassed all of [Hulk] Hogan's records... in terms of merchandising and licensing, and pay-per-view and live events. Without question the most popular performer we've ever had.”

Austin's WWE Royal Rumble performances earned him a record

Austin earned himself a Guinness World Record by becoming the first and only WWE Superstar to win the WWE Royal Rumble on three separate occasions. Austin won the 30-man over the top rope elimination match in 1997, 1998, and 2001.

Even though the 6-time WWE Champion’s career came to a premature end due to injuries, he will likely hold that record for as long as he lives.
