We are on the Road to WrestleMania now and the Royal Rumble will be the first PPV where we will get an initial idea about what the WWE is planning for the biggest show of the year. They have put a lot of good matches on the card so far. Although the buildup to the Rumble hasn't been all that good, it seems like we will be getting a good show.
As it happens every year, the traditional 30 superstar Royal Rumble match will crown the number one contenders for both men's & women's top matches at WrestleMania 35. But apart from these two matches, WWE will have other big matches that will also be a part of the card at the Grandest Stage of Them All. And we could possibly see some of those feuds kick start at Royal Rumble.
In this article, we will take a look at 3 big WrestleMania storylines that WWE could start at the Royal Rumble 2019:
#3 Seth Rollins vs Brock Lesnar (Universal Championship)
On the latest edition of Monday Night RAW, we found out that Finn Balor would be replacing Brock Lesnar's original opponent Braun Strowman at Royal Rumble. But even with the change of in the match, it's unlikely that there will be a title change at the event. So it's very much going to be Brock Lesnar as the Universal Champion at WrestleMania 35.
With that said, he must have a big name who will try to defeat him. And with the recent push he has been getting, Seth Rollins could certainly be that guy. Rollins lost the Intercontinental Title to Dean Ambrose and that feud seems to have been ended for now. Moreover, Rollins has already entered himself in the Royal Rumble match.
He is a heavy favourite to win the match looking at the options that WWE has for WrestleMania 35. It will be great to see the 'Kingslayer' become 'Beastslayer' at WrestleMania and win his first ever Universal Championship.
#2 John Cena vs Drew McIntyre
John Cena made his comeback to WWE after Christmas. He has officially announced that he will be entering the Royal Rumble match to try and book a place for him at WrestleMania 35. But it doesn't look like WWE will book him to win the match. What seems more realistic, is him putting over someone at 'Mania who could become the next big thing in WWE.
The perfect opponent for him could be Drew McIntyre. 'The Scottish Psychopath' has been interfering in Cena's way ever since he came back. McIntyre vowed that he will prove everyone that John Cena is now over. With the little that we have seen between these two, it looks like it could make up for a very good match.
Both story and wrestling wise, John Cena is the perfect opponent for McIntyre also because he can easily take a loss against him and it won't hurt him much. But it will definitely be McIntyre's biggest accomplishment in the main roster.
This is no hate or dislikeness for Cena, but it's a simple fact that he won't stay with the company after Wrestlemania. And it would be better if he is a part of something that will actually mean something going forward.
#1 Charlotte vs Ronda Rousey vs Becky Lynch (RAW Women's Championship)
Ronda Rousey will be defending her title at the Royal Rumble against Sasha Banks. And just like Lesnar, she has a very good chance of retaining it. Firstly, it was looking like Charlotte would be the one to challenge her, but WWE apparently can change their plans anytime. On the other hand, Asuka will be challenged by Becky Lynch for the Smackdown Live Women's Championship.
It is believed that WWE is planning the first ever women's main event match at Wrestlemania. It would be a triple threat where Ronda Rousey will defend her title against Charlotte & Becky Lynch. This is being said so because we have been given hints of this match ever since Survivor Series.
Charlotte is already officially in the Royal Rumble match and hence the favorite to win. Becky Lynch has been booked for a different match but she could still be a part of the Rumble. So if WWE is indeed planning this match for Mania, it has to be either 'The Queen' or 'The Man' who wins the 30 women Rumble. And the other person could always be added to it at a later date.
WWE has created history with women many times already. And this might be the right time to do something extra special.
