3 dream matches that we could see at King of the Ring 2019

Who will be the new King of the Ring?
Who will be the new King of the Ring?

The King of the Ring tournament is back. The winner could see his name etched into WWE's history books, which include the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H and the late Harley Race. Earlier, some of the King of the Rings (for instance, Brock Lesnar in 2002) were given a World title opportunity. However, this does not seem to be the case this year.

As of now, four bouts have been completed - on RAW, Samoa Joe defeated Cesaro, and Cedric Alexander defeated Sami Zayn. On Smackdown LIVE, Andrade defeated Apollo Crews, and Elias defeated Kevin Owens thanks to some help from the special guest referee Shane McMahon.

However, the tournament is far from over and will resume on the coming episode of RAW. Since this tournament still has 12 participants left, we will have some dream match-ups during its course. In this list, we will take a look at a few dream matches that could happen during King of the Ring 2019.

#3 Buddy Murphy vs Andrade

WWE has been very keen on showcasing the talent possessed by former NXT Champion Andrade and former 205 Live Champion Buddy Murphy. While Andrade got a lot of offense against veterans like Rey Mysterio, Murphy defeated a five-time World Champion Daniel Bryan clean on the last week of Smackdown Live. WWE is interested in pushing Murphy, as evidenced by his segments throughout this month.

Both Andrade and Murphy could clash at the tournament's semifinals if both of them manage to win their respective bouts till then. Since WWE is prioritizing good in-ring performances, this clash could become one of the best TV matches in WWE history. The winner would advance to the final and earn himself a spot at Clash of Champions.

#2 Drew McIntyre vs Samoa Joe

Drew McIntyre and Samoa Joe have never been in a one on one match against each other. In 2015, when McIntyre joined TNA as Drew Galloway, Joe was on his way out. When McIntyre came to NXT, Joe was called up to the main roster to be the henchman for Triple H. When McIntyre was called up to RAW after WrestleMania 34, Joe was drafted to Smackdown Live during the Superstar Shakeup in 2018.

Now both of the monster heels are in the same brand, but unfortunately are losing more matches than what they should. McIntyre and Joe dominate the opponents on the mic and during the build-up of their respective feuds. However, both of them always fall short of victory.

Now, both of them could clash against each other in the 2nd round of King of the Ring. Joe has already defeated Cesaro and is sitting comfortably waiting for his opponent. However, the Scottish Psychopath has to defeat Ricochet to qualify for the 2nd round.

#1 Buddy Murphy vs Cedric Alexander

The 205 Live crowd is one of the most silent crowds in WWE. We cannot blame them since 205 Live is filmed immediately after SmackDown Live and most of the fans in attendance would be exhausted by then. However, the Cruiserweight Championship duel between Cedric Alexander and Buddy Murphy managed to excite such an exhausted crowd back in 2018.

Yes, unlike the previous entries, Murphy and Alexander crossed paths - during an episode of 205 Live and at Super Showdown at Australia. However, since those were under 205 Live, we will consider it as a dream match on the main roster. The chemistry between the two athletes is unreal and without an iota of doubt, even the mainstream fans will enjoy this matchup.

The clash between these two is highly unlikely since both of these Superstars have to overcome all the challenges on their respective brands. If they can do that, we are in for a huge treat.
