3 Explanations for the Universal Championship match being short and unclean

The underwhelming title reign is finally over. Seth Rollins defeated The Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar to become the Universal Champion ultimately. Rollins slayed the beast.

Even though many WWE fans expected a back and forth action between these two veterans of the business, all we got was a short and unclean match. Lesnar attacked Rollins even before the match had begun. Lesnar also laid Rollins out with an F5 and multiple announcer table spots. Once the referee rang the bell, Lesnar put Rollins through multiple German Suplexes. However, before Lesnar could put the Architect through another F5, Rollins' ring awareness came into play.

Rollins low-blowed Lesnar and hit him with three Curb Stomps to secure the pinfall victory and become the new Universal Champion. But why did WWE had two of its most valuable assets go through a small match without much action? In this thread, we will take a look at a few reasons why the Universal Champion match was short and unclean

#3 To make it more believable

Seth Rollins weighs above 215 pounds. Lesnar is about 50 pounds heavier. Many fans might not see Rollins defeating Lesnar as a believable move. This was the same reason why AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, and Finn Balor fell short to the Beast Incarnate during their respective encounters with Lesnar. Thus WWE had to resort to the underhand tactics of a low blow.

We can observe some similarity between the method used in this match and Eddie Guerrero's triumph over the Beast fifteen years ago. Eddie was physically similar to Rollins. Thus, Vince used Goldberg to interfere in the match, causing Lesnar to drop the title to the Latino Heat.

#2 To cut some time for the rest of the event

WrestleMania 35 had a stacked card with sixteen bouts.

WrestleMania 35 had a total of sixteen scheduled matches. To accommodate this humongous amount of matches, WWE had to keep some encounters short. Thus WWE decided to cut some time from the Universal Championship clash between Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar.

WWE has been employing this tactic for a lot of time. We do not need to look far behind to see that. At 2018 SummerSlam, WWE had a massive total of thirteen fights - split between RAW, SmackDown Live, and 205 Live. Since SmackDown and 205 Live was likely to have better matches, WWE cut the time for the bouts from RAW - including the main event. Ronda Rousey squashed Alexa Bliss. Demon Balor squashed Constable Corbin. Braun Strowman destroyed Kevin Owens, and Roman Reigns had a short match against Brock Lesnar.

#1 To make Lesnar look strong

For some unknown reasons, WWE is still adamant about having Brock Lesnar as the top guy in the company - even though he is barely around RAW or PPVs. And even when he is on RAW, The Beast stands in the ring while his advocate Paul Heyman does the talking.

No one other than Goldberg defeated the Beast Incarnate clean since his defeat against John Cena in 2012. WWE's project Roman Reigns could not slay the Beast clean even though the Big Dog got multiple opportunities to do so. Reigns had to capitalize on a distracted Lesnar to defeat him at SummerSlam 2018. Triple H pinned the Beast at WrestleMania 29 owing to some help from his D-Generation X brother Shawn Michaels.

Brock Lesnar is the ultimate bea in WWE and WWE seems to have no interest in changing the status quo.
