3 huge WWE Stars who failed miserably in movies

Being a WWE Superstar looks like a hell of a lot of fun. I mean, who wouldn’t want the talent and ability to step into the ring week-in, week-out to the crowd chanting your name and a nice paycheck at the end of it?

Well, some superstars clearly want more than that as they seek out to boost their own personal brand, namely by appearing in movies.

Considering the wider scope and sheer diversity of audiences, you simply cannot blame these guys for wanting a little more than just oiled up fighting and microphone brawling.

After all, you only have to look in the direction of one Dwayne Johnson to see that a wrestler can indeed forge themselves into so much more. Unfortunately, many wrestlers aren’t The Rock and their attempts at becoming legitimate film stars ultimately fall to a rather rapid three-count.

Today, we take a look at 3 such stars who attempted to make it big but failed miserably in the process.

#3 John Cena

As much as John Cena may present the global brand of the WWE in so many ways – including some truly inspiring Make a Wish charity work – his film career has been somewhat of a disappointment.

In truth, if there was anyone who had the ability and charisma to carry his own in the film industry, following Dwayne Johnson’s rise to fame, it was Cena, but some rather shoddy outings haven’t helped his cause whatsoever.

A born-ready action star if there ever was one, Cena looks the part, but when it comes to acting chops the likes of 12 Rounds and The Marine showed he has less going on than a wet flannel. Dull, devoid of excitement and making us want him back in that ring, the action field certainly didn’t present the best of the superstar.

That being said, Cena presenting himself in the truly wince-inducing ‘Fred’ movies was enough to plant himself unconscious on the mat and leave his film career rather in tatters. Thankfully, Cena was hilarious in the movie, Trainwreck, but sadly cameos won’t really get you that far.

#2 Triple H

For a man who has made all the right decisions within the WWE, from becoming one of the ultimate heel characters in the business, to literally becoming the authority these days, Triple H has made some bad choices in films.

The man otherwise known as Paul Levesque has seen himself stand at the grandest stage of them all, WrestleMania, year after year, but when it comes to the cinematic stage, he is best left forgotten. Notably, Triple H has only featured in three feature films, a sign that shows his limited acting skills.

Attempting a Kindergarten Cop never quite worked for him in the terrifyingly awful The Chaperone, and he didn’t cut the mustard as a lead action star in Inside Out (not the Pixar version), but Blade: Trinity is where he really muscled his way into the realms of ridiculousness.

Granted, Blade: Trinity had its fair share of questionable decisions and moments. Triple H was included to play Janko, a brute who basically beat the crap out of Ryan Reynolds – some people may have loved it. But let me tell you, in a film filled with headshake moments, whenever Levesque opened his mouth, it was all a mess.

#1 The Big Show

You have to feel for Paul Wight aka Big Show. This is a guy who was introduced into the WWE as the might of a man, possibly the next Andre the Giant in terms of proving to be an absolute behemoth of a man to try and overcome.

Over the years, he’s become the absolute laughing stock of the business, being palmed off with some truly soul-destroying storylines and generally being treated as a sideline act. No wonder the big man looked to forge a career in movies, only for that to hit the mat pretty hard and pretty quickly.

With his movie Vendetta laying out the gore rather than actually posing a favorable storyline, Show has seen tough times on the big screen. While appearing on countless television shows through the years, the big man has been reduced to movies such as Knucklehead and MacGruber, as well as Little Hercules.
