3 major things Batista has done since his last WWE match

From the Animal to the Destroyer

Batista was never an ordinary superstar, as he was fast-tracked to the top after a couple of initially failed gimmicks. He was hailed as The Animal due to his physique and strength, and even with a limited move-set, managed to win the top titles of the company on several occasions and became the face of the company for some time.

His alliance with Triple H, Ric Flair, and Randy Orton to form Evolution is undoubtedly his most notable achievement in the world of wrestling, and he is still known as one of the biggest names in the industry.

While Batista has had a rocky career which has involved fallouts with the company, he has decided to once again return to the ring to take on longtime friend, Triple H, in a career-ending match at WrestleMania 35.

Batista last fought a match in 2014, when he teamed up with Triple H and Randy Orton to take on The Shield at WWE Payback 2014, on June 1.

Take a lot at the three major things that have happened in Batista’s life since he last fought a match in WWE, and share your favorite moments of the superstar in the comments below.

#3 Supported James Gunn

In case you didn’t know, James Gunn is a famous Hollywood screenwriter and director, most famous for directing and/or writing many Marvel movies such as Thor, Doctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

In 2018, Gunn was fired from the project of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for old tweets joking about pedophilia and rape.

Batista, his castmate who has now worked on several projects together with Gunn, stood up in support of Gunn in the controversy and declared that if Disney did not use Gunn's script for the movie and reinstated him, he would quit and ask to be recast.

In March 2019, Gunn was reinstated by Disney as director of the film after meeting with Alan Horn, chairman of Walt Disney Studios, on multiple occasions. Batista, along with other cast members of the movie, played a huge role in the reinstatement of Gunn and rebuilding his reputation.

#2 Married and separated again

Batista’s love life has been no secret and has been a mix of successes and failures over the years.

Batista married his first wife, Glenda, in 1990. The couple had two daughters before they decided to file for divorce in 1998. He married his second wife Angie soon after in the same year. After eight years of marriage and the birth of a son, the couple split in 2006.

After his last in-ring match in 2014, Batista decided to give marriage a third chance. He did so by marrying competitive pole dancer, Sarah Jade, in October 2015.

Batista believed that he had finally found his soulmate in Sarah, but things did not go well between the couple. In early 2019, the couple officially separated, ending his only marriage in which he did not compete in a single wrestling match.

At least now we know that the busy and stressful wrestling schedule was not the reason behind his earlier failed marriages.

#1 Become a top Hollywood star

Less brain, more muscles

Before 2014, Batista had already starred in six movies. Out of those, he had major roles in at least three movies and had been the frontman of at least two movies. That was already a good portfolio to show how successful his acting career was getting.

However, it was the time after he took a break from wrestling and decided to completely focus on his acting career that he became one of the top Hollywood stars out there.

In 2014, after competing in his last match in June, Batista’s most notable movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, was released in July. Batista starred in the movie as a part of the pact, playing the character of Drax the Destroyer.

Since then, Batista has already starred in at least twenty more movies, with Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and the Avengers movies being the most successful ones in his portfolio.

Just like Dwayne Johnson and John Cena, it seems like time away from the ring has surely helped the wrestling superstar become a silver screen megastar!
