3 Possible endings for the WWE World Heavyweight Title Match at Wrestlemania 31

The build-up for the main event of Wrestlemania 31 has been rather bleak overall and after the tug-of-war that closed the Monday Night Raw ‘Go Home’ episode, we can agree that it has turned out to be anti-climatic too. The ‘Go Home’ episode of Raw is ideally a culmination of all the feuds and is meant to amp up audience interest levels leading up to Wrestlemania. The segment that closed Monday Night Raw, we can all agree, hardly made the cut. However, recent developments outside of the ring have supplanted the in-ring disappointment, to leave the balance of the match finely poised heading into Wrestlemania 31. Brock Lesnar has signed a ‘multi-year’ bumper deal with the WWE, and this has thrown a spanner in the works, as far as pushing Roman Reigns is concerned. The WWE had previously gone out of their way to plug and hype up Roman Reigns, so concerned were they that the audience were not entirely sold on the idea of Roman Reigns becoming the poster-boy of the WWE just yet. However, Brock Lesnar staying on with the WWE has given them a lifeline – both in terms of interest that the main event at Wrestlemania 31 will generate, as well as potential feuds and creative avenues that having Lesnar in their roster enables the WWE to exercise. Here then, is a look at 3 possible finishes for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match, this upcoming Wrestlemania.

#1 He can, and he will!

The first scenario to discuss is obviously WWE’s plan A – to have Roman Reigns pick up the clean win over Brock Lesnar. This is still a distinct possibility come Sunday, as it adheres to all the build that Roman Reigns has been receiving. Though Brock Lesnar has signed a new contract and there is no more necessity to have him drop the title, it would still be a more prudent course of action to have Reigns pick up the clean win, just so that the WWE looks like they are following through.

Also, with both John Cena and Brock Lesnar being the wrong side of 30, it may still be the right decision to let Reigns pick up the clean victory, with a view toward the future in mind. Both Cena and Lesnar have headlined their respective eras, and the Reality era needs a new top babyface. While Reigns may not quite be ready for the responsibility, he undoubtedly has the potential to be a top babyface, and following through with their initial plan of letting him beat Lesnar for the title is still a very viable option for the WWE.

Roman Reigns can come out of this match looking very strong if the match is booked appropriately. Since the idea of him getting the ‘push’ has not entirely caught on, the WWE might avail the opportunity that Wrestlemania 31 presents, to rectify the situation once and for all.

However, if the WWE feel it would be easier to get the audience to react negatively to Reigns than positively, they could have Heyman turn against Brock Lesnar and ally with Reigns, thus making Roman Reigns a heel. Paul Heyman’s on and off-screen tutelage might be precisely what Roman Reigns’ floundering mic skills need. Turning Reigns into a heel might be the price that the WWE needs to pay in order to ensure that a Roman Reigns victory is more easily digested by the audience.

#2 Paul Heyman gets proven right, again!

Since Brock Lesnar has re-signed with the WWE, there is no assurance that a Roman Reigns’ victory is a foregone conclusion. If the WWE suspect that the audience may not react favourably or positively to Lesnar dropping the title to Reigns, which is a distinct possibility, they might not want to follow through with the idea of crowning a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion amidst a chorus of boos.

Having Lesnar retain the title at Wrestlemania would provide a good twist in the expected storyline, and is more likely to send the fans home happy than compared to a Reigns victory. That being said, it has been reported that Roman Reigns has been cheered wildly in the house shows that the WWE do, around the world. Somehow though, his popularity in house-shows has not been reflected on RAW. There is no telling how the audience might react at Wrestlemania 31, and the WWE would be keen to avoid a negative fan reaction to close out Wrestlemania.

Having Brock Lesnar retain the title at Wrestlemania does not necessary need to mean that the WWE’s plans of pushing Reigns have to be derailed. Having Lesnar retain his belt at Wrestlemania could just be used so as to milk a positive audience reaction. Reigns could then go on to win the title from Lesnar using his re-match clause, in another pay-per-view. This course of action would be a safe bet for the WWE to take, and would also inadvertently prove that Paul Heyman was correct in calling the match, yet again.

#3 If you smell...

News that Brock Lesnar has re-signed with the WWE offers the fans an opportunity to see a number of interesting feuds involving “The Beast Incarnate.” One such feud that could find its seeds sown as early as Wrestlemania 31, is Brock Lesnar versus The Rock. Having already come forth to offer his stamp of approval during the Royal Rumble, The Rock may well run interference for Reigns during the match to cost Lesnar the title.

Having Lesnar attack Reigns illegally when the referee is down, could be an ideal scenario for The Rock to come out and make the save, thus costing Brock the title. This could also set the stage for Brock v.s Rock II, at Wrestlemania 32. Though it is a year away, rumours that the WWE are having many legends compete at Wrestlemania 32 also lends itself to this idea.

Whichever way the WWE finally decide to go, we can coincide on the fact that the intrigue surrounding the match has multiplied on the back of Lesnar re-signing with the company. With fans now eager to see what further role Lesnar has to play, the outcome of the main event of Wrestlemania 31 has assumed a new-found mantle of importance.
