The road to the grandest stage of them all, WrestleMania, is about to begin with one of WWE's big four pay-per-views, Royal Rumble, on January 27, 2019.

With WWE Superstars announcing themselves for the Rumble match, it would not be wrong to say that Rumble fever has started to run wild in the WWE Universe. Well, one recent addition in the Royal Rumble match is the 16-time World Champion, John Cena.

John Cena announced himself for the men's Royal Rumble match this week on Monday Night Raw. And keeping WrestleMania 35 in the mind, it would be interesting to see what WWE Creative have in store for the Leader of Cenation at Royal Rumble.

So, without further ado, lets take a look at 3 possible plans WWE might have for John Cena in the Royal Rumble match.

#3 Confrontation with Samoa Joe

According to the reports of Cagesideseats, John Cena is rumoured to clash with the Coquina Clutch master, Samoa Joe, on the red brand after Royal Rumble.

Thus, WWE might have Joe and Cena involved in a confrontation in the Royal Rumble match, layinng the crumbs for a potential feud after Royal Rumble. Given Joe features on the blue brand, we might witness Vince McMahon switching Joe to the red brand.

Cena is expected to return to Hollywood soon after Royal Rumble, a long feud looks a bit distant for now. However, with the duo rumoured to lock horns on the red brand following Royal Rumble, expect a major push for Joe after the Rumble.

Samoa Joe's impressive work as a heel against Brock Lesnar and AJ Styles garnered him a lot of praise. A mini-feud against John Cena could act as a launchpad for his career.

#2 Cena gets thrown out by Drew McIntyre, leading to a potential match at WrestleMania 35

When John Cena announced himself into the 30 man Royal Rumble match this week on Monday Night Raw, he was confronted by the Scottish Psychopath, Drew McIntyre. Though the segment led to a 6 man tag team match-up, this could be just the start of something big.

With Seth Rollins expected to win the men's Royal Rumble match, leading to a classic match against the Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar, for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 35, WWE might involve McIntyre in a mouthwatering clash with Cena at the grandest stage of them all.

A high voltage feud with Cena would not only help McIntyre improve as an in-ring performer, but would also help him gather some more momentum before he gets hold of the Universal title.

#1 teasing a potential rematch against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 35

One exciting option for John Cena in the Royal Rumble match could be to tease a potential rematch against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 35, which is expected to be the retirement match of the Deadman.

As of now, the Deadman is 53 years of age, and has not much left in him. In fact, his last match at WWE Crown Jewel where he teamed up with his brother of destruction, Kane, to take on the duo of HHH and Shawn Michaels was also underwhelming.

So WrestleMania 35 could be and should be the last outing of The Undertaker, and who better than arguably the greatest WWE performer of all time in John Cena to go against in your last outing?

Creative could have The Phenom enter the Rumble match as a surprise entrant, and get involved in a confrontation with Cena, laying down the bread-crumbs for a potential rematch at WrestleMania 35.
