3 reasons why Dolph Ziggler, not Brock Lesnar, attacked Kofi Kingston on Smackdown Live

Who 'Showed-Off' their skills?

WWE Smackdown was a better show than Raw, but it wasn't the makeover of R-Truth or the backstage assault on Big E that caught fans attention. The returning Dolph Ziggler's attack took the WWE Universe by surprise.

With AEW's Double Or Nothing this Saturday. the biggest wrestling juggernaut decided to pull all the strings to make the show a memorable one. There's nothing better than a surprise return, and who better than Dolph Ziggler.

The Show-Off is a master at his work, and his return shocked the fans. While his attack and the promo confirmed that Dolph will be a heel, the big question that everyone asked was, 'Why?' Why did he decide to attack the WWE Champion when The Beast Incarnate's humble advocate was on the ramp with the briefcase?

In this article, I share my thoughts on why Dolph Ziggler instead of Brock Lesnar attacked the WWE Champion:

#3 The Anticipation

The box office attraction was on Raw, and he did show a side of his which was all fun at the start of the show, while in the end he looked as if he was about to cash in the contract. The company wanted to take that anticipation factor to a new level, and this time without The Beast Incarnate on screen.

Everyone knew that when the former Universal Champion's music hit, he would cash in the contract, but the company wanted to keep this storyline going until next month.

While the fans have been waiting to see a big fight between the current WWE Champion and The Beast Incarnate, the company would want to hype this storyline until the blue brand moves to Fox in October later this year.

Why did the company decide to do so? The next slide may probably provide you the answers.

#2 A match at SummerSlam

There are three matches announced for WWE Stomping Grounds, and the one involving the current WWE Champion doesn't have Dolph Ziggler as the challenger. Instead, it's Kevin Owens. This means that The Show-Off will have enough time to create a storyline in the time until SummerSlam comes to our TV screens.

It is a good way to make Dolph Ziggler worth the time and money, because SummerSlam is one of the biggest pay per view events for the company. If the former United States Champion is given enough creative freedom, he will be able to create a name for himself, and also showcase his skills between the ropes.

This is a win-win situation for the company that is in dire need of some good content so that the ratings can see a rise in weeks to come. A surprise return and the constant attacks with good promos can help the company.

#1 Win the WWE Championship at SummerSlam before losing it to Brock Lesnar

Dolph Ziggler could win the title down the line and if he wins it at SummerSlam, it would be a good idea. This way, not only will the company cement Kofi Kingston as a fighting champion, but they will also elevate his career. After being considered a jobber and B+ player to becoming the WWE Champion, the first African-born Champion would be loved for his reign for four months, which may end at the Biggest Party Of The Summer.

A loss to Dolph will not look bad after such a run, and Dolph Ziggler getting toppled by the former Universal Champion and Mr. Beast In The Bank will be a great way to generate interest in the blue brand when it moves to FOX later this year.
