Only several days remain before Crown Jewel, and the match card is looking awe-inspiring with a number of big names set to appear. Tyson Fury, the boxing legend, will take on Braun Strowman in a singles match. Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar will take their rivalry from the Octagon to the squared circle. Hulk Hogan's team will lock horns with Ric Flair's team in a Ten-Man Tag Team Match. Additionally, a Tag Team Turmoil Match will take place with nine tag teams from RAW and SmackDown competing to determine the best tag team in the world.

This week, WWE added yet another match to the star-studded card, as a 20-Man Battle Royal will also be held at Crown Jewel. The winner of the Battle Royal will earn an opportunity to challenge United States Champion AJ Styles on the very same night.

AJ Styles' championship reign began at Extreme Rules, where he won the belt from Ricochet. Subsequently, Styles began a feud with Cedric Alexander, as the two Superstars locked horns several times, including at Clash of Champions.

Let's find out three reasons why WWE announced a 20-Man Battle Royal Match to determine the number one contender for the US Championship.

#3 To allow for the use of underutilized Superstars

Crown Jewel will be a monumental event, considering it will be held in Saudi Arabia, where all previous three pay-per-views were huge, including last year's event of the same name. Besides the massive crowd capacity, the whole set-up and returning big names make the entire event feel like a WrestleMania.

The Andre the Giant Battle Royal Match is held every year at WrestleMania The bout gives a chance for WWE's underutilized Superstars to perform on the Grandest Stage of Them All. A similar Battle Royal match will allow twenty Superstars to compete at Crown Jewel. Superstars like Aleister Black, Buddy Murphy, EC3, Elias, and many more, are thriving for new opportunities and they might earn themselves a United States Championship Match in the process.

Crown Jewel didn't have a Battle Royal Match last year, and several Superstars missed the show. This year's match allows 20 men the opportunity to compete at Crown Jewel, but also gives one Superstar the opportunity to be thrust into the United States Championship spotlight.

#2 To lift the prestige of the US Championship

The United States Championship is one of the most prestigious titles in WWE and carries with it a rich history. The US Title is the second oldest active belt in the company, and has been held by numerous legendary Superstars. After the Universal Championship, the US Title is certainly the most significant singles title on the Red brand.

The US Championship's stature was raised drastically after John Cena won it a few years ago. The title started to headline big pay-per-views, as Cena defended the belt frequently. He introduced the United States Championship Open Challenge, which opened the door to new challengers and made the belt even more relevant.

AJ Styles has never held an open challenge, but the 20-Man Battle Royal could be a way to make the United States Championship relevant once again. At Royal Rumble, thirty Superstars contest to earn a ticket to challenge either the WWE Champion or the Universal Champion at WrestleMania. Similarly, a 20-Man Battle Royal match is a brilliant way to determine the number one contender to Styles' championship at Crown Jewel. The Battle Royal will give Styles a deserving opponent, and it will certainly elevate the stature of United States Championship.

#1 Lack of time to build a new feud

While AJ Styles is the current United States Champion, he is also the leader of The OC, having reunited the stable a few months ago. As a result, Styles often participates in or gets involved in tag team matches, shifting his focus away from singles competition. The OC have wrestled The New Day, The Viking Raiders, The Street Profits in the past couple of weeks alone.

Styles' last United States Championship match was at Clash of Champions, where he defended the title against Cedric Alexander. After wrapping up the rivalry with Cedric, 'The Phenomenal One' is yet to get a new challenger. When The OC faced The Street Profits this week on RAW, Kevin Owens proceeded to hit Styles with a stunner, suggesting the possibility of a new feud.

Less than one week remains before Crown Jewel, and it's not sufficient time to build an appropriate championship feud. Given the fact that Owens attacked Styles, the former could be in line to start a feud with Styles in the future. 'The Prize Fighter' could win the 20-Man Battle Royal match at Crown Jewel, setting up a potential show stealer with Styles later in the night.
