3 storylines WWE should continue and 2 they should nix

WWE has come up with a lot of great ideas lately!

It's no secret that WWE has been going the extra mile with their storytelling over the last year or so, but not everything that comes out of the writing room deserves to see the light of day. In fact, for every two or three hits the company comes up with, they seem to have one or more storylines that just don't achieve what they set out to.

Now that's not the best record to tout, but it becomes more understandable when you consider that WWE is responsible for seven hours of content a week and more during pay-per-view weekends. Keep in mind, that's a lot of storytelling to do, even for a juggernaut like WWE, which is why some things aren't going to go well as others.

With that being said and WWE heading towards their final months of the 2019 calendar year, here are three storylines the company needs to keep going and two that they absolutely need to nix.

As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below and tell us which storylines you think WWE should keep going.

#5 Continue: Invasion storyline

WWE needs to keep the invasion storyline going!
WWE needs to keep the invasion storyline going!

There's something about an invasion storyline that makes for must watch television.

Maybe that has to do with the "anything can happen" feel that each show has during these storylines, or maybe it's just the possible dream matches, but it is still is a break from WWE's regular programming. It's also a great way to keep fans interested in all three shows throughout the week, which really helps WWE when it comes to ratings.

If nothing else, keeping the invasion storyline going seems to be best for business going forward. At least this way, the company can give fans a reason to watch all three shows, have an overarching storyline that they can continue to add to and keep that unpredictable feel going.

#4 Nix: Knocking on Aleister Black's door

Aleister Black deserves so much more than this!
Aleister Black deserves so much more than this!

Why does WWE do this?

Why do they take a Superstar that was otherwise extremely popular in NXT, put them on the main roster and saddle them with a meaningless gimmick? This doesn't mean WWE isn't capable of doing the opposite and hasn't done something amazing with NXT talent in the past, but that isn't the case with Aleister Black.

Unfortunately for Black, he has been relegated to an Edgar Allen Poe-type character, who repeatedly begs other Superstars to knock on his door. Although the symbolism is definitely there and the segments do have some very appealing aspects, it is ultimately very one note and a far cry from what the character could be.

Think about it this way - WWE can only have Superstars knock on Black's door so many times before the segment gets old and thus don't have a lot to work with. They also don't seem to be doing anything of note with him past these segments right now, which begs the question of why they aren't using him better?

In the end, Black is so much more than just a one note character and WWE needs to work to flesh him out more. Not just as a man looking for a fight with anyone who dares knock at his door, but as the anti-hero he was always meant to be.

#3 Continue: Finn Balor versus NXT faces

Finn Balor seems hell-bent on change in NXT.
Finn Balor seems hell-bent on change in NXT.

Make Finn Balor great again - that's what WWE has succeeded in doing since moving him back to NXT last month and he has been a force to be reckoned with since then. The company even went a step further by turning Balor heel for the first time in his WWE career, which will be fun to watch unfold over the next couple of weeks.

With that being said, and Balor gaining a lot of momentum since his heel turn, it absolutely makes sense for WWE to keep this going as long as possible. In fact, this could go a long way in helping build the next generation of Superstars on NXT and make for some very entertaining television in the meantime.

Maybe the company could even bring him face to face with his mentor, Triple H, ,who is probably upset with The Demon King over his actions and use that to keep fans interested in NXT. It could even be the start of the brand starting to do these kind of dream matches and thus spur more interest

Think about it - Balor is arguably on a collision course with Triple H thanks to his actions and comments over the past couple of weeks and to see the two finally step in the ring with each other would be mind-blowing to see!

#2 End: Rusev versus Bobby Lashley

WWE needs to go ahead and nip this storyline in the bud.
WWE needs to go ahead and nip this storyline in the bud.

While the WWE Universe has been subjected to countless segments centered around the love triangle between Rusev, Lana and Bobby Lashley, none of them seem to build on the story in anyway. Furthermore, it just seems like the company is throwing things against the wall to see what sticks.

Now a storyline like this would usually be a great way to build up a babyface and make fans sympathize with them, but it's hard to do that when they keep coming up short. Unfortunately for Rusev, that is what keeps happening to him, and while it does draw a bit of sympathy, that is still outdone by how weak he is being made to look.

Honestly, how can you invest in a babyface that gets beaten down by his ex wife's new boyfriend and lays there lifeless while they kiss over him? It's not a good look for any babyface to go through and it's definitely not a great look for a guy like Rusev that has been on and off television for months.

In the end, WWE needs to nix this storyline as soon as possible and move these three on to something else. Of course fans are going to want a satisfying solution to this storyline, but with the corner that WWE has been booked into, it really doesn't seem like that is possible at this point.

#1 Continue: The Fiend versus Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan versus The Fiend is probably WWE's biggest storyline right now!
Daniel Bryan versus The Fiend is probably WWE's biggest storyline right now!

The Fiend versus Daniel Bryan is probably one of the most interesting feuds on television right now and the mind games being played have a lot to do with that. Not only is that evident by the polarizing reaction the segment between the two received last week on SmackDown, but also by the potential this storyline has going forward.

Another great thing about this matchup is the fact that Daniel Bryan is just coming off of a babyface turn, which will make it harder for fans to boo him even when he is pitted against The Fiend. Beyond that, facing a multiple time WWE Champion will be a great test for The Fiend and will really help cement him as WWE's top guy on SmackDown.

Of course, how WWE executes the mind games going forward will be key to keeping this feud interesting, but the company has proven they are capable of doing this successfully on multiple occasions. They have also proven that they are capable of breaking the fourth wall in the process, which should be another fun thing to watch play out.

In the end, WWE has struck gold with their Fiend versus Daniel Bryan storyline and while The Fiend coming out on top is probably a forgone conclusion, how they get there is what fans are wanting to see.
