3 Superstars who can defeat Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 35

Who will slay the Beast?
Who will slay the Beast?

If it seems like Brock Lesnar has been the WWE Universal Champion for a long time, it's because Brock Lesnar has been the WWE Universal Champion for a long time.

A very very long time.

'The Beast' is in his second reign as WWE Universal Champion and has held it for a combined 563 days. Of the last 627 days, Lesnar has been champion for 563.

There is every indication that Lesnar will hold the championship until WrestleMania 35, notwithstanding his upcoming defence against Braun Strowman.

Strowman is a choke artist who has failed to capture the WWE Universal Championship on 5 occasions. There is no reason to expect this time to be any different.

But the hero conquers the monster, and someone must slay The Beast.

These 3 men would be fine choices.

#1 Finn Balor

The Demon versus The Beast
The Demon versus The Beast

Finn Balor is the first ever WWE Universal Champion.

The WWE had so much faith in him that he defeated both Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in order to capture this championship. The WWE's faith was so much that they trusted him to establish the credibility of a brand new world championship. The WWE had so much faith in him that they trusted him to anchor the main-event scene of their flagship show at the very start of the brand split.

Finn Balor is the first ever WWE Universal Champion, and he held the championship for exactly one day.

The WWE had so much faith in him, and he was forced to vacate the championship due to injury.

He has not held the WWE Universal Championship since August 22, 2016. The closest he has come to holding it again was an excellent RAW Main Event against Roman Reigns, that is remembered more for the aftermath; The Shield reforming to thwart Braun Strowman's Money in the Bank cash-in.

It is time to change that.

Balor is one of the most popular superstars on the entire roster, despite his lacklustre booking. Imagine how the fans would respond if the WWE actually got behind him again?

This would be a classic David versus Goliath story. But that trope is so popular simply because it has worked so very well.

#2 A.J. Styles

Phenomenal

A.J. Styles is the best wrestler in the entire world, and it isn't even close.

He consistently gets loud and positive reactions, is a very very good promo, and can have a good match with anybody.

He can also lay claim to being the most accomplished singles star of the last three years; he has been a featured part of the WWE ever since his debut and has held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship twice. Indeed, his second reign was more than a year and included a successful title defence at WrestleMania.

Smackdown Live is indeed the house that A.J. Styles built, but apart from facing Randy Orton, Styles has done everything he could possibly do on the blue brand.

Moreover, Monday Night Raw's main-event scene has had a major vacuum ever since Roman Reigns was forced to relinquish the Universal Championship.

A.J. Styles certainly has the required star-power to fill that void.

We already know that Styles and Lesnar would be a good match; they tore the house down at Survivor Series 2017.

But this time, what if Styles actually won?

It would make for an unforgettable WrestleMania main event.

#3 Seth Rollins

Can Seth Rollins burn down Suplex City?
Can Seth Rollins burn down Suplex City?

Of the three choices discussed, Seth Rollins is the most likely to get a date with The Beast, and destiny, at WrestleMania 35.

Lest it is forgotten, Rollins has already won a world championship from Brock Lesnar in the main event of a WrestleMania; memorably cashing in his Money in the Bank contract to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31.

The last time these two faced off, the match was a disappointment. But unlike WWE Battleground 2015, Rollins is not the snivelling, weak, incompetent, heel champion, but a righteous babyface that the fans are firmly behind.

The entire dynamic would be different this time around; Lesnar the unstoppable heel champion who doesn't care enough to show up, and Rollins the fiery babyface who entertains the fans every single night.

Moreover, Rollins has been subtly positioned to face Lesnar; he has already called him out in promos a few times.

All that is left is for him to defeat Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania 35, and burn it down.
