3 surprises we could see at Fastlane

John Cena vs. Undertaker WrestleMania 34
11 years later, will it finally start tonight?

The final stop before WrestleMania happens tonight at Fastlane. It will also be the final brand-exclusive pay-per-view on WWE's schedule.

The build to this event and the card itself scream "filler!" Fastlane is often regarded as one of WWE's worst events because of its wheel-spinning nature and tonight's show doesn't look like it will change that perception.

To give viewers a reason to watch, WWE often pulls unwanted swerves. It should avoid that here. Instead, here are three surprises we could see tonight that would give a reason to watch.

#1: A cash-in attempt

Carmella Money in the Bank
Could we see another attempt from Carmella tonight?

Carmella has held the Money in the Bank briefcase since last June. One gets the feeling that WWE has buyer's remorse in giving it to her since she's felt like an afterthought ever since. Viewers are interested in seeing what ultimately happens with her, given that her aborted cash-in about a month ago did 2.2 million views on YouTube.

Will we see a cash-in attempt at Fastlane to generate some interest? It's quite possible. If so, we may be in for another surprise right on its heels.

#2 A royal showdown is set

Asuka vs. Charlotte
Will the rumors be proven tonight?

The rumors persist that Asuka will challenge Charlotte, despite the Raw television product telling a different story over the last few weeks. If Charlotte vs. Asuka at WrestleMania is indeed the match, Asuka's presence at Fastlane would generate a much-needed buzz, and we can probably expect to see her tonight.

Asuka could well foil Carmella's cash-in along the way to declaring her intentions to challenge Charlotte, setting in motion an empress vs. queen match that many have dreamed of for years.

The removal of the specter of Carmella spoiling that match would also be welcome.

#3 The gong hits

John Cena vs. The Undertaker WrestleMania
Will yet more rumors be proven true?

Speaking of WrestleMania rumors, they've been rampant about John Cena challenging The Undertaker this year. I personally don't think Undertaker should return to the ring, but if the program is to be set up, tonight's the night.

WWE has beaten around the bush for far too long, and Fastlane has slowed things down. It should end with all engines roaring to WrestleMania. If this match is going to happen, we should hear The Undertaker's gong tonight, and we well could.
