3 ways tonight's NXT TakeOver: WarGames could affect WWE Survivor Series

The ladies and gents of NXT put on a barnburner of a show during tonight's NXT TakeOver: WarGames. Usually, when there's an NXT PPV before a standard WWE one, the question on everyone's lips is "will the main roster PPV be able to meet the quality of NXT's show?" This month, however, things are a tad bit different.

You see, this will be the first main roster show that involves all three brands - RAW, SmackDown, and NXT. Now, sure, NXT folks have shown up as participants in their respective gender's Royal Rumble matches. But, I'm not talking surprise appearances - I'm talking actual advertised matches.

That means that what happened on tonight's TakeOver will have a direct effect on Sunday's event.

So, yeah, let's take a look at a few ways how.

#3 There's going to be some battered and bruised NXT folks

There's no getting around it, pretty much every match at TakeOver: WarGames was, well... a war. All of NXT's champions - Shayna Baszler and everyone in the Undisputed Era - as well as NXT champion Adam Cole's challenger, Pete Dunne, took a serious beating during the show,

Fortunately for all the champions, save for Cole, none of their titles are actually up for grabs on Sunday night. The Panama City Playboy, on the other hand, not only has to defend his title against Dunne, but he probably took the worst beating of all the other champs during his match. After all, he did crash through a couple of tables after falling off the top of the dang cage! So, he's probably going to feel a little sore tomorrow.

These are all tough folks, and they're sure to be able to hold their own during Survivor Series. But, it should definately play a factor in Sunday's matches.

Oh, and lest we forget - Kevin Owens, who was the surprised fourth member of Team Ciampa in the WarGames match, is still a part of Team RAW on Sunday. And, since we don't yet know who is on Team NXT, they could very well send in a squad of fresh competitors, putting Team RAW at a disadvantage.

#2 We could see a new NXT Champion

Pete Dunne could be wearing gold again on Sunday

As we mentioned before, both NXT Champion Adam Cole and his Survivor Series opponent, Pete Dunne, went through some - to put it mildly - intense competition at TakeOver tonight.

However, it's pretty safe to say that compared to the battle that Cole went through, Dunne got off pretty light. Now, that's not to say he didn't go through a war of his own - his Triple Threat match against both Killian Dain and Damian Priest was no walk in the park. But, if you've seen the way the men's WarGames match ended, you'll agree that the NXT Champion is probably way more battered than his opponent.

Which puts Adam Cole at a definite disadvantage going into his match on Sunday. When you take into account there are only two other matches on the card with titles on the line - Brock Lesnar vs Rey Mysterio and Bray Wyatt vs Daniel Bryan, neither of which really feel like titles are going to change hands in either of them - if WWE wanted to do a title change, this would be the match to do it in.

Also consider that Pete Dunne is extremely over with the NXT fanbase, and WWE may want to see if that popularity can carry over to the rest of their fans. But, if we're right, Cole's destructive match tonight would be a great way to sell a loss.

#1 It's a great set-up for a debut/return

The Undertaker made his debut at Survivor Series 1990.

If there's one thing Survivor Series is known for, it's for the debut of new wrestlers. The Rock, The Undertaker, The Shield... probably some other guys whose names begin with "The", I dunno... all of them made their first appearances during WWE's Thanksgiving tradition.

Now consider that, NXT's men's team has yet to be announced and b) some of their top guys (Keith Lee, Tomasso Ciampa, etc.) are in probably in no condition to perform (in both kayfabe and real life, let's be honest here), it's a great opportunity to debut someone new to the NXT roster.

There was a pretty strong rumor going around that John Morrison was going to be the final member of Team Ciampa tonight and... well, no. But, if he's signed a new deal with WWE, Survivor Series would be an opportune time to have him make his long-awaited return to the company. Considering that WWE's version of ECW was kinda sorta like what NXT is now, except not as good and really weird because it was on SyFy and they had to do a bunch of weird science fiction/horror type stuff there and, man, don't get me started.... where was I?

Anyway, that's where John Morrison got his big start for his singles run (winning the SyF... I mean... ECW Championship), it would be appropriate for him to make his return to WWE via being a surprise member of team NXT.

Finally, there's plenty of folks in the WWE Performance Center waiting to make their big debut. WWE could simply say that most of the NXT roster is battered and bruised and so Team NXT is pulling the best and brightest from the PC to help them win.

But, what do you think? Could we see some big debuts/returns at Survivor Series on Sunday? Let us know in the comments section right down there. Just scroll down. You'll find it.
