Speaking to NBC Elmira, Sting opened up about how Ric Flair played a rather important role in his career. Sting recalled that back in the day when Dusty Rhodes was promoting an event, Flair's opponent got injured.

Rhodes had to find a replacement to face Flair, and the latter was fine when Dusty told him that he'd be facing Sting. At that time, Sting was a young up-and-comer, and the very fact that Flair agreed to face Sting at the very first Clash of the Champions event, shows how much faith 'The Nature Boy' had in the abilities of 'The Icon'.

Flair and Sting went on to have several memorable encounters in the years that ensued. And given how loyal and honorable an individual Sting is, he's always been highly assertive about his gratefulness and friendship towards Flair.
Meanwhile, Flair too has a huge amount of respect for fellow WCW/WWE legend Sting.
