3 WWE stars who can dethrone Dominik Mysterio

Dominik Mysterio won the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 41. Since then, he has only defended his title against Penta a couple of times, retaining it with the help of The Judgment Day. With SummerSlam coming up in two months, WWE needs to find a suitable opponent for Mysterio.

With that in mind, here are three stars who could dethrone Dirty Dom to become the new Intercontinental Champion.

#3 AJ Styles has his sights set on Dominik Mysterio’s title

AJ Styles returned at Royal Rumble 2025 after being on the sidelines due to an injury he sustained in October 2024. On the February 10, 2025, episode of RAW, The Phenomenal One got into a verbal scuffle with Dominic Mysterio and Carlito. It didn’t take long for fists to fly, and Styles single-handedly thrashed Dirty Dom and The Caribbean Bad Apple.

Following WrestleMania 41, Styles visited Dominik Mysterio at The Judgment Day Clubhouse to tell him he was coming after the Intercontinental Championship. Hence, the former two-time WWE Champion is eagerly waiting to get a shot at the IC title and take down Mysterio. Given his in-ring prowess and experience, AJ Styles could dethrone Dirty Dom despite the heel faction’s interference.

#2 Sami Zayn could become the Intercontinental Champion once again

This week’s episode of WWE RAW saw Sami Zayn, Dominik Mysterio, Bron Breakker, and Penta collide in a Fatal Four-Way match in the first round of the 2025 King of the Ring Tournament. The final moments of the bout saw the OG Bloodline member land a Helluva Kick on Dirty Dom to pick up the win and advance to the semifinal.

It is yet to be seen if Zayn will go all the way to win KOTR and earn a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship at the SummerSlam PLE. However, if he loses, he still has a pinfall victory against Mysterio and could leverage it to demand a shot at the Intercontinental Championship down the line.

If he gets some backup from his old Bloodline allies, he can counter the numbers game that has always favored The Judgment Day and have a fair match against Dominik Mysterio. Thus, Sami Zayn could dethrone Dirty Dom to become the Intercontinental Champion for the fifth time in his career.

#1 Finn Balor is already making moves to get back at Dominik Mysterio

Bron Breakker defended the Intercontinental Championship against Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor, and Penta in a Fatal Four Way match at WrestleMania 41. The Prince landed a Coup de Grace on The Unpredictable Badass in the closing moments of the bout and went for the cover. However, Dirty Dom came flying in with a Frog Splash before the referee could count to three and pinned Balor to win the title for the first time in his career.

The former Demon King was already unhappy that he had to share the Intercontinental Championship match with Mysterio at WrestleMania. The fact that the latter pinned him and stole the victory from him further frustrated the former Universal Champion. Despite the obvious signs of tension, Balor remains with the group, but it appears he has already set his plan to dethrone Dirty Dom in motion.

The Irishman introduced Roxanne Perez into The Judgment Day, who is effectively loosening the bonds between Raquel Rodriguez, Liv Morgan, and Dominik Mysterio. Moreover, JD McDonagh has also returned to the faction after his injury hiatus. Thus, Finn Balor has the support of three people in the heel faction while slowly creating a rift between Morgan, Mysterio, and Rodriguez.

He could use this influence to backstab and dethrone Dirty Dom in the coming weeks. The Prince already has a history of betrayal and had cost Damian Priest the World Heavyweight Championship against Gunther at the 2024 SummerSlam PLE, kicking him out of The Judgment Day.

Now, he could repeat history and become the new Intercontinental Champion and gain total control of The Judgment Day in the process. It would be interesting to see how long Dominik Mysterio will be able to hold onto his first main roster championship.
