4 Reasons why Brock Lesnar should not defeat Kofi Kingston to become the WWE Champion

On the September 17 episode of SmackDown Live, WWE stunned its audience and Kofi Kingston as Brock Lesnar returned to the Blue Brand.

Not only did Lesnar make an appearance at the show, but his advocate Paul Heyman also laid down a challenge to Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship. Continuing his reign and promise of being a fighting Champion, the New Day member wasted little time in accepting the challenge and ate an F5 from Lesnar for his troubles.

The October 4 episode of SmackDown, where the Blue Brand will make its debut on FOX, will see the match play out involving two veteran Superstars of WWE.

While beating Lesnar inside the squared circle is an uphill task, watching him manhandle his opponents is also not for the faint-hearted.

In this article, we will look at the four reasons why Brock Lesnar should not win the WWE Championship from Kofi Kingston.

#4 There are far too many heels and heel Champions on SmackDown

The heels are taking over!
The heels are taking over!

After the Clash of Champions pay-per-view, where The Revival defeated The New Day for the SmackDown Tag Team Champions, we now have a brand filled with heel champions.

Of course there is always a chance of titles changing hands at any moment, but currently, the SmackDown Tag titles, the SmackDown Women’s Championship, and the Intercontinental Championship are all in the hands of heels. This leaves Kofi the odd one out as the only babyface holding gold on the Blue Brand.

Couple that with the heels on the roster, and you have a dilemma where there aren’t enough deserving babyface challengers for all the championships.

A change of character for a Superstar can happen overnight, but if Lesnar wins the WWE Championship, the most likely first challengers will have to be Roman Reigns or Daniel Bryan as babyfaces.

#3 Kofi & The New Day are huge merchandise movers

One of the biggest reasons WWE does what it does is because of the fortune attached to it. Merchandise has been among the biggest sources of income for the company, and WWE has built stars such as John Cena, Roman Reigns, and Becky Lynch from the ground up to ensure fans have a role model to follow.

Similarly, The New Day has had a great appeal to the fans, especially the younger ones. From the Power of Positivity, all the way to the pancakes and Booty-Os, New Day has managed to open a completely new niche for the company.

To ensure that fans invest in the trio at all times, the company usually keeps at least one championship in the faction for most of the year. Keeping that in mind, the WWE Championship has surely helped bolster Kofi Kingston’s stocks, and we now see even more fans in the WWE Universe wearing New Day’s merchandise.

Therefore, the company will have to think twice before they pull the trigger and take the title off one of their current top superstars.

#2 Kofi has had a great reign that shouldn’t end like this

Kofi has been a true champion

Kofi Kingston has been one of WWE’s best top champions of the decade without a doubt. The Superstar has shown up almost every week and either defended his title or built towards his next rivalry and match.

When KofiMania took over, fans could not think of anything other than seeing Kofi become the WWE Champion and fulfilling his dream. After fending off major threats such as Daniel Bryan, Samoa Joe and Randy Orton, the Superstar deserves to lose the title in a very good match.

Brock Lesnar, on the other hand, is known to be a squasher who battles in short matches and manhandles his opponents. This was exactly the case when the two met at The Beast in the East event a few years back.

Considering Lesnar’s past few matches, it won’t come as a surprise if he battles another squash match to win the Championship.

Many would believe that this isn’t what Kofi deserves as he has shown a lot of heart in his battles and a beating will really not work with the WWE Universe who has usually supported the New Day member.

#1 WWE Champions have been consistent in their title defences

From John Cena to Daniel Bryan, one good thing about the recent WWE Champions has been the fact that they’ve shown up to every Live show, televised matches, and pay-per-views and defended their titles whenever the company asked them to.

The last time Brock Lesnar became the WWE Champion after defeating John Cena at SummerSlam 2014, he held the title for 224 days and only defended it twice before losing it on his third outing at WrestleMania 31.

The same was the case when Lesnar held the Universal Championship, and his part-time schedule allowed him to disappear off television for extended periods. FOX might not want a part-time champion and would want fans to tune in every week in anticipation of a top championship storyline.

Keeping that in mind, Kofi is one man who works hard and shows up week after week to defend his title, and if he does lose his championship anytime soon, then it should be against a Superstar with the same schedule.
