4 Things that must happen in the 2019 women's Royal Rumble match

Will this year be a worthy sequel?
Will this year be a worthy sequel?

The Royal Rumble pay-per-view is just days away and the card is stacked. This could possibly be one of the best WWE shows in recent history. The championship matches, on both the men's and women's sides, are all possible candidates to steal the show. However, the main attraction of this pay-per-view is obviously the Royal Rumble match. Only now, there are two of them.

Last year saw the first-ever all-women's Royal Rumble match. It was a collective success, with it being more of a celebration of women's wrestling and involving dozens of legends in the match. The roster has gotten bigger since then, with 23 of the spots already filled by the roster. There are quite a lot of possibilities on what could happen on Sunday and that makes for an interesting match.

A lot may depend on the outcomes of the two Women's Championship matches, as long as they are both on before the 30-woman bout. Becky Lynch challenges Asuka for the Smackdown Women's Championship, while Ronda Rousey defends the Raw championship against Sasha Banks. Whatever happens in these matches, a lot of drama is set to unfold at Chase Field.

WWE will need to book another successful Rumble and they have all the tools to do so. Here are four things that must happen in the 2019 women's Royal Rumble match.

#4 Naomi eliminates Mandy Rose in quick fashion

This would be a good payoff to a questionable story.
This would be a good payoff to a questionable story.

Mandy Rose has been a constant thorn in Naomi's side for over a month, with the former Absolution member using devious means to get one up over her rival at every turn. She even attempted to seduce Naomi's husband Jimmy Uso, in a questionable show-long angle. While it has its problems, this is a fine use for a character like Rose. Also, it has made the fans actually want to see her get her comeuppance at the hands of Naomi.

Their match on Smackdown this week was a disappointment, ending with the heel getting a cheap victory following interference from Sonya Deville. For an effective end to this story, Naomi must stand tall over Rose. After weeks of frustration, she should eliminate "God's Greatest Creation" from the Royal Rumble match, in record time. It would be impactful, to conclude this angle with an embarrassingly short run for Mandy Rose in the Rumble match, with Naomi getting a big elimination.

#3 Good showings for the upper mid-card RAW talent

The likes of Ember and Ruby should do well in the Rumble match.
The likes of Ember and Ruby should do well in the Rumble match.

Raw has followed pretty much the same formula for months and months. Almost every week, we get a six-woman tag team match between the Riott Squad and various members of the babyface women's roster. The likes of Ember Moon and Bayley have been languishing in this with no end game in sight. The recent introduction of the Women's Tag Team Championship will make things better, but a few of these performers need to be reignited.

Sasha Banks is set to face Ronda Rousey for the Raw Women's Championship at Royal Rumble and the rest are in the Rumble match. If not all, at least a couple of them should be showcased a bit more. Ember Moon is insanely talented and should be allowed to show it on the grand stage at Chase Field, while Bayley and Natalya could also do with a good showing. All three members of the Riott Squad need to have a big Rumble, particularly Ruby Riott, to salvage themselves as villainous threats on the roster.

#2 Becky Lynch enters the match

The Man HAS to enter the Rumble.
The Man HAS to enter the Rumble.

Becky Lynch is set to face Asuka for the Smackdown Women's Championship at Royal Rumble but is highly unlikely to win. This is because of her impending feud with Raw's Ronda Rousey and the fact that she will have to switch brands. After being unsuccessful, Becky must enter the Royal Rumble match. Whether she wins or not is a different story, but The Man has to make her presence known in the 30-woman bout.

She is just too over right now for her night to be a one-and-done. If WWE ends up excluding her from the field upon defeat to Asuka, they run the risk of a repeat of the ugly ending to the 2014 Royal Rumble match when Daniel Bryan was not part of the Rumble match, causing the crowd to boo the entire final stretch of the match. It could ruin the entire match and possibly the rest of the night if Becky does not show up in the women's Royal Rumble match. It would be sad and disappointing.

#1 Either Charlotte or Becky Lynch win

In some way, both these women would end up facing Ronda at 'Mania.
In some way, both these women would end up facing Ronda at 'Mania.

Ronda Rousey, the Raw Women's Champion, is having ongoing issues with most of the WWE's horsewomen. She will defend her title against Sasha Banks on Sunday, before moving over to Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch. The build to Survivor Series saw Ronda Rousey vs Becky Lynch become the most anticipated WWE match in years, but The Man suffered a concussion and Charlotte took her place in the match. It turned out to be great, with the Queen brutally attacking Rousey and causing the disqualification.

After costing them both the Smackdown Women's title at TLC, the former UFC fighter has unresolved issues with both Charlotte and Becky. But with them being on different brands, the two former best friends will have to move. A Royal Rumble win for one of them would do it, but the roles will have to be perfectly defined. Becky Lynch is the clear babyface, the one who everyone will cheer. On the other hand, Charlotte Flair should play the heel because let's face it, if she wins the Royal Rumble, the fans will boo her mercilessly.

If a triple threat is indeed planned, then one of these two have to win the Rumble before the other one makes the switch to progress the feud. These are exciting times for the main event scene in WWE's female division, but WWE needs to make the right choice here. If the Royal Rumble turns out successful, a women's WrestleMania main event will be looming large.
