In what could turn out to be one of the biggest stories in WWE and wrestling, in general, this year, there have reportedly been talks between the sports entertainment juggernaut and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

NJPW has been Japan's top wrestling promotion for nearly two decades straight now and is widely regarded as having some of the world's best in-ring talents.

It's hard to ever think of WWE even talking about a partnership with a promotion of NJPW's size, but this could be an indication of times changing. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE President and Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan has reportedly been in talks with NJPW over a potential partnership:

"In what could end up being among the biggest wrestling stories of the year, or a non-story, depending on the end result, Nick Khan has been in talks with New Japan Pro Wrestling about WWE being the exclusive American partner with the promotion," noted Meltzer.

WON added that the goal is reportedly to prevent NJPW from working with other American promotions:

Obviously, there are a million questions regarding such a deal if it was to happen, and there are no indications where talks are at past they date back to late March or early April," Meltzer added.

Further rumors have indicated that much of the deal has to do with allowing Daniel Bryan to wrestle in NJPW since he's expected to re-sign with WWE even though his contract expired.

We hope this is true because it could mark a new era of wrestling if WWE goes through with the move.
