Many wrestlers in the WWE wears a mask in the ring. However, usually Luchadors wears a mask owing to their tradition, but it does not mean that other wrestlers don't try and rock the same gimmick.
Currently, there are wrestlers like Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara in the WWE who are wrestling while wearing a mask. Wrestling fans also like their look but do you know that some non-Mexican stars also wore a mask in the WWE?
There are many wrestlers in the WWE that once wore a mask.
Here we take a look at four famous WWE wrestlers who wore a mask for some time.
#4 John Cena
John Cena has done many exciting things in the WWE to entertain the fans. From the past few years, he has not been able to give time to the WWE because of his rising Hollywood career. He had done so much for the company and also promised that despite his other works, he would never leave the WWE.
He has a gimmick that fits with the current WWE product, and this is why he is still a big deal. He has feuded with many wrestlers in the past, and The Nexus is one of them.
In 2010, Cena was feuding with The Nexus and at one point he faced the leader Wade Barrett with a stipulation that if Cena loses, he would become a member of The Nexus. Cena then lost the match and then joined the group.
Barrett added another stipulation that if he loses his matches, then Cena would be fired from the company and after some weeks when he faced Randy Orton for the WWE Championship, he lost the match, and as a result, Cena was fired from the company.
After his storyline departure from the company, Cena started wrestling on live events under the name Juan Cena. It is the Spanish translation of his real name, but it was easy to understand who the real man is. He also wore a mask to wrestler but this only happened for a few weeks until Cena was re-hired by the company.
Mankind is one of the most famous gimmicks of the WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley. During his wrestling career, Foley had three gimmicks: Dude Love, Cactus Jack and Mankind.
We all know that Mick Foley once used a mask to wrestle under his Mankind gimmick in the WWE. He also created an image for himself in the WWE with this character. He loved to get hurt in any way, and his match against The Undertaker is a good example for it. Foley got injured several times in the match but he didn’t leave his gimmick and enjoyed the pain, and at one point he also fell from the top of the cage to the ring. This incident was not originally scripted to happen, but it did happen.
He also reverted to his other two gimmicks, but at last, Mankind was considered to be his best gimmick. After many years, Foley returned to the WWE and also became a Special Guest Referee for Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman at Hell In A Cell 2018.
#2 Bray Wyatt
From the past few months, fans haven’t seen Wyatt on the WWE television, but we can expect him to return soon. He has one of the most mysterious gimmicks in the company, and many even compare his character with The Undertaker as both are very similar to each other.
Most of his fans know that he used to wear a sheep mask as the leader of the Wyatt Family. However, we are not talking about that. In NXT, for some weeks, he wrestled while wearing a mask.
A fan also asked him to remove the mask as it was not looking good on him and Wyatt also replied to him by saying that his nose is broken and this is why he is wearing a mask.
Last year, he formed a new tag team along with Matt Hardy as “The Deleters Of Worlds” but now Hardy is retired, and Wyatt is also not active on Monday Night Raw.
#1 The Undertaker
The Undertaker is currently scheduled to face D-generation X at the WWE Crown Jewel along with brother Kane. He started his wrestling career more than 30 years, and since 1990, he is working for Vince McMahon’s WWE.
He had done many great things in the WWE, and only some of his fans know that once he also wrestled while wearing a mask. The company showed a storyline where King Mabel crushed his face. He then returned to the company at Survivor Series 1995 with a mask, and at next year’s Royal Rumble, Bret Hart removed the mask from his face, and we never saw him in this look again.
In reality, too, his orbital bone was crushed by Mabel, and because of that, he had to take surgery. However, that time the could not afford his absence, and this is why The Undertaker returned early with a mask.
