5 AEW-NJPW dream crossover matches that need to happen

All Elite Wrestling Superstar Shawn Spears recently took to Twitter and called out New Japan Pro Wrestling sensation, KENTA, challenging the current NEVER Openweight Champion to a singles match.

But, as of now, a match between two stars from AEW and NJPW seems very unlikely given that the two promotions aren't in a working relationship with each other.

However, if given that the adequate amount of time, New Japan Pro Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling could possibly come to terms to developing a potential working relationship with each other in the near future. After all, AEW is still in their early days and will need some time to establish themselves.

Another vital point to be noted from a potential AEW-NJPW working relationship is the fact that the two promotions could possibly host crossover shows with one another possibly in the US or in Japan. And considering the roster depth within the two companies, fans could certainly expect several dream crossover matches between the two promotions.

That being said, here are 5 dream AEW-NJPW crossover matches we would like to see:

#5 Birds of Prey vs The Young Bucks

Ospreay and Eagles are the talk of the town
Ospreay and Eagles are the talk of the town

The newly formed tag team of Will Ospreay and Robbie Eagles have taken the entire New Japan Junior Heavyweight Division by storm. Similarly to what The Young Bucks had done under NJPW in their early days as members of the Bullet Club.

Ospreay and Eagles, commonly known as the Birds of Prey, are considered to be one of the fastest and high-flying tag teams in all of NJPW today and a match with the equally fast-paced duo of Matt and Nick Jackson would certainly be sensational to watch.

Throughout the years, we've seen The Young Bucks compete against some of the best tag teams from around the world and I'm pretty sure of the fact that both Matt and Nick wouldn't mind a tag match against the CHAOS Jr. Heavyweight tag team.

#4 Tetsuya Naito vs Adam 'Hangman' Page

Throughout the years in NJPW, Tetsuya Naito became one of the fastest rising superstars to have ever stepped foot in the promotion. Since forming the Los Ingobernables de Japon faction, Naito's stock has risen immensely and the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion has established himself as one of the hottest star (if not the hottest) in all of New Japan today.

Adam Page, on the other hand, is All Elite Wrestling's main-man. The former Bullet Club member is reportedly considered to be the promotion's hot prospect and that is also the reason why he had the privilege of challenging for the inaugural AEW World Championship against Chris Jericho at All Out. Despite failing to win the title in his first attempt, one thing is for sure that Page will remain as one of AEW's top stars.

A match between Naito and Page would surely be eye-catching and also the fact that the two men almost have a similar style of wrestling is also another interesting point why this match needs to happen at some point down the line. The two men have previously shared the ring with each other in tag matches but a singles match is what we crave for.

#3 Kota Ibushi vs Rey Fenix

Kota Ibushi and Rey Fenix are two men who also have a few similarities in terms of their in-ring style of wrestling. Despite Ibushi being a former Jr. Heavyweight, The Golden Star remains one of the most athletic and high-flying stars in New Japan today. And, Rey Fenix is someone who needs no introduction when it comes to high-flying.

At the All In event in 2018, Ibushi and Fenix had the chance to stand across each other in a squared circle when the former teamed up with The Young Bucks (The Golden Elite), whereas, Fenix was paired with Bandido and Rey Mysterio in an exciting six-man tag team match in the main event of the show.

If Fenix and Ibushi ever square-off in a wrestling ring at some point down the line, expect the two men to pull off some of the craziest spots one could ever witness in a match.

After all, Fenix is currently on the back of a singles match against Kenny Omega from a Northeast Wrestling show and totally deserves a shot at the other half of The Golden Lovers.

#2 Kazuchika Okada vs PAC

Now that PAC has finally made his debut for All Elite Wrestling, the former Open the Dream Gate Champion is open to several matches we would like to see him in. For instance, matches against the likes of Pentagon Jr., Rey Fenix, and Jon Moxley are matches that promise to be an instant classic.

But, if given the chance, I personally feel that if there's anyone PAC should face from the New Japan roster then it's non-other than current IWGP Heavyweight Champion, Kazuchika Okada.

In the past, we've seen The Rainmaker compete against some of the absolute best Jr. Heavyweight stars in the form of Will Ospreay and Marty Scurll. And adding another Brit to that list of junior heavyweights means we could be in for another dream match.

Personally, the reason why I opted for PAC as Okada's opponent is due to the fact that The Rainmaker has already faced the likes of Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes, Chris Jericho, and Adam Page from the AEW roster.

#1 El Phantasmo vs Kenny Omega

El Phantasmo has been Bullet Club's rising talent

Ever since affiliating himself with the Bullet Club earlier this year, Canadian sensation El Phantasmo has established himself as one of the hottest Jr. Heavyweight stars in the pro wrestling industry today.

Phantasmo has always proven himself to be one of the most creative, high-flying Jr. Heavyweight stars of all time and joining the Bullet Club, earlier in the year added more charisma to his persona.

During his initial days, Phantasmo was seen sporting the light jacket that was once worn by former Bullet Club leader and originator, Prince Devitt (Finn Balor) and since then ELP has added several notable accolades to his list of accomplishments.

A match with Kenny Omega (and imagine a possible victory over him) would launch Phantasmo into further stardom. ELP has all the tools in the world to become the Bullet Club's frontrunner and defeating a former Bullet Club leader himself would be a major boost to his career.
