Nobody would forget this botch
Nobody would forget this botch

The Royal Rumble has always been one of the most anticipated events of the WWE. The pay-per-view is known for surprising the fans with many returns and shocking results.

Last year as well, the WWE shocked the world with the return of Rey Mysterio and the debut of Ronda Rousey.

However, sometimes, not everything could be done according to the plan as nowadays, things could quickly get botched. There have been many instances when the WWE had to handle botches in the Royal Rumble match.

In this article, I’m listing 5 Royal Rumble botches that I think you should take a look at. Let me know if there’s any popular one I missed to talk about in the comment section.

#5 Batista and Cena got eliminated at the same time

John Cena was supposed to get eliminated by Batista
John Cena was supposed to get eliminated by Batista

John Cena and Batista are two of the biggest superstars in the WWE. Both superstars enjoyed their success in the company for years. However, Batista is no longer in the company as he is busy acting in Hollywood while Cena is also following the same path.

In 2005, Batista was supposed to win the Royal Rumble match by eliminating John Cena, but here things got a little botchy as both superstars fell off at the same time. WWE was planning to push both of them and having Batista winning the Rumble was their first goal.

This is also one of the most infamous botches in Royal Rumble history as it could have changed WWE’s WrestleMania plans. However, Vince McMahon came to the ring to restart the match with only these two superstars.

But in the process of doing this, he made things more botchy by tearing his quads. Batista won the match anyway by eliminating John Cena as it was planned.

#4 Mil Mascaras eliminated himself

Mil Mascaras is a WWE Hall Of Famer and one of the most popular wrestlers of the '70s. However, to a lot of WWE fans, he is not remembered for his wrestling but for his Royal Rumble botch that happened in 1997.

The event happened near his hometown Mexico, and this is why the WWE was able to convince him to wrestle in the match. However, what he did during the match wasn't so smart. He came to the match and eliminated some wrestlers before he got eliminated from the Rumble, but there's a twist.

Nobody eliminated him from the match, but he himself did it. But why?

According to some rumors, he only agreed to come to the event if nobody would eliminate him from the match. Seeing his popularity that time, the WWE accepted his conditions.

After being in the match for some time, Mascaras eliminated himself by jumping from the top rope. Everyone was confused with his actions, and then the commentary team covered it by saying that Mascaras didn’t know the rules of the Royal Rumble.

#3 Randy Savage also eliminated himself

Randy Savage is known for showing brutality in the ring. And, the same happened during the Royal Rumble match in 1992. In the match, he was pounding Jake Roberts without worrying about anything else. However, this is where he made a mistake.

Savage unknowingly eliminated himself from the match when he attacked Roberts by jumping over the top rope.

As we all know that after touching the floor, a wrestler would get eliminated from the match. However, Savage immediately came back to the ring once he realized the mistake he has done.

The commentators then tried to cover things up by saying that a wrestler would only get eliminated by the match when someone would throw him over the top rope. However, this rule isn't applicable now.

#2 Titus' stumble

Oh, Titus...
Oh, Titus...

Titus O’Neil’s Greatest Royal Rumble botch is the funniest botch in the Royal Rumble history. Even though the match didn’t happen in the Royal Rumble PPV, it was still a Rumble match. So I’m including him in this list as well.

Titus entered the match as the 39th entrant, but during his entrance, things got botchy as he stumbled and fell underneath the ring.

This was actually very funny to see as nobody would have expected that anything like this could happen in the show.

The WWE took advantage of this botch and then they started to display this botch again and again in the television. If this wasn’t enough, then they made funny merchandise for the fans.

#1 Alex Riley fell off the ring

Riley was not supposed to get eliminated this early
Riley was not supposed to get eliminated this early

Alex Riley isn’t a top superstar but, he was supposed to be one. Even though the WWE portrayed him as The Miz’s sidekick, many people believed he could've gotten a bigger push in the company.

He was supposed to eliminate John Cena from the 2011 Rumble match but he accidentally eliminated himself early from the match. Actually, Kofi and John Cena were trying to eliminate him but Riley lost his grip and fell off the ring. When this happened, Cena was left stunned as Riley was the wrestler who would have eliminated him from the match later.

But, the 16-time champion handled everything perfectly and later got eliminated by The Miz who was not even in the match.

This 40 man Royal Rumble match was won by Alberto Del Rio who then challenged Edge for the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania.
