In late 2002, Dawn Marie got into a feud with popular WWE Diva Torrie Wilson. The storyline saw Marie getting into a relationship with Al Wilson, who was the real-life father of Torrie. At No Mercy 2002, Marie and Torrie squared off, with Torrie picking up the win. The November 7, 2002 edition of WWE SmackDown saw Al and Dawn getting engaged. Their love only blossomed further. On the January 2, 2003 episode of SmackDown, the lovebirds tied the knot and went on their honeymoon.

Al tragically passed away due to a heart attack during his honeymoon, days after the wedding. At the 2003 Royal Rumble PPV, Torrie took on Dawn Marie in a Stepmother vs Stepdaugter match, with the former emerging victorious when all was said and done.
Al Wilson passed away in real life on April 4, 2019. His passing came two days before his daughter Torrie was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
