#4 Montreal ScrewJob - Survivor Series 1997, in Montreal, Canada
Although the WWE holds a lot of good history, which the fans love, it also has a couple of incidents which gave the company a bad image. Out of many such cases, the Montreal incident gave the company a lot of negative vibes. It tarnished the reputation of the brand globally.
At the Survivor Series PPV in 1997 held in Montreal, Canada, the main event comprised of a match between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship. The story-line was that Bret Hart was the WWF Champion then.
However, he signed a contract with WCW (the rival group of WWE) and was determined to leave the WWF. However, Mr McMahon was unhappy with the decision and he didn't want Hart to leave along with the Championship. Bret Hart was also not willing to lose the Championship to Shawn with whom he had both on-screen and off-screen issues.
The match ended in a controversy as Vince McMahon forced the referee to ring the bell when Shawn locked a submission move on Bret Hart to which Bret did not submit. The title was forcefully changed and this damaged the reputation of the company forever. In the end, Bret spat on Vince's face and left the company. This was perhaps the most notorious decision on the part of WWE, which took place in Montreal, Canada.
