The Match That The Undertaker Wants

WWE always misses on the dream matches that fans want. For years, WWE universe is hoping to see two of the most iconic stars of WWE, The Undertaker and John Cena fight at Wrestlemania. However, this year we were treated with some of those matches in WWE. Let's have a look at 5 dream matches which actually happened in 2017.

#5 Brock Lesnar vs Braun Strowman - No Mercy

The Beast and The Monster

It is not a common sight to see someone manhandling the beast incarnate Brock Lesnar. When people saw Strowman throwing Brock like a jobber in the main event of SummerSlam, everyone wanted 'The Monster Among Men' to face Brock one-on-one. To everyone's delight, an actual match was made official for No Mercy.

Both the men are highly protected wrestlers and the beast facing the monster was a dream affair. The outcome was not as good as expected and the finish was Brock kicking out of two Running Powerslams and then suddenly hitting an F5 out of nowhere for the win.

#4 Brock Lesnar vs Aj Styles - Survivor Series

Brock Lesnar and AJ Styles faced each other at Survivor series

This match is an example of how good AJ Styles is and why he is one of the best in the business. The theme for this year's Survivor Series was Raw vs SmackDown Live. The Universal champion Brock Lesnar was going to face then WWE champion Jinder Mahal.

There was no buildup to this rivalry and hardly anyone was invested in the match. But on the go home episode of SmackDown Live before Survivor Series AJ Styles defeated Jinder Mahal in the main event ending Mahal's 6-month reign as WWE champion and the match was changed to Universal champion Brock Lesnar vs WWE champion AJ Styles.

The match turned out to be phenomenal. There was a moment in the match where everyone believed Brock was going to submit to AJ's submission hold calf crusher. Though AJ lost the match after an F5 from the beast, Brock sold AJ's moves throughout the match showing how good AJ Styles is.

#3 John Cena vs Shinsuke Nakamura - SmackDown Live

The Ce
Babyface vs Babyface Still Works

This match is the only one on the list which didn't happen on any PPV. When John Cena wanted a title shot at Jinder Mahal's WWE championship at SummerSlam 2017, everyone expected him to get it. WWE universe was surprised by the announcement from SmackDown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan that Cena would have to face Shinsuke Nakamura in a #1 Contender's match to determine who gets the right to fight Mahal for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam.

At the time, Nakamura was having a feud with Baron Corbin which wasn't as hot as expected and needed something to cement his legacy. The match changed the momentum for Nakamura as he beat the leader of Cenation clean in the middle and faced Jinder Mahal at SummerSlam 2017.

During final few moments of the match, Nakamura performed his patented Explode suplex on Cena, but John landed on the back of his neck instead of his stomach. After the match, Nakamura apologized for the botch and they both shook hands showing the respect they have for each other

#2 John Cena vs Roman Reigns - No Mercy

TYh
The Passing of the Torch?

The match between John Cena and Roman Reigns deserves to be the main event of WrestleMania, instead, it happened at No Mercy. Roman is an incredible athlete and he always delivers when he is in a WWE ring.

However, he is not considered the very best when it comes to promos. Though you cannot win against Cena when it comes to verbal battle (unless you are The Rock! Which you are not), Roman Reigns still stood strong. The promos leading to the match were perfect examples of the attitude era promos. They even broke the fourth wall several times during their promos.

Though the match was not the best of both men's career, it was still one of a kind and began with a “you both suck” chant from the crowd. The finish came when Reigns hit a spear, a single spear, to pin Cena clean in the middle.

#1 AJ Styles vs Finn Balor - TLC

Nobody saw this coming...

The match that no one saw coming! The two Leaders of the Bullet Club against each other in WWE! Bray Wyatt was going to face AJ Styles at TLC but due to viral meningitis, WWE needed a replacement for Bray and out came the surprise, days before the actual match.

With no build-up to this match at all and hype that was expected from a match with two talented wrestlers, it was their job to deliver on the night and didn't they?"This is awesome" chants started even before the bell rang and both the wrestlers gave their best performances in the match of the night and didn't disappoint the crowd. The match is certainly a contender for match of the year.

The match ended when AJ missed a springboard 450. Finn followed it up with the Shotgun Dropkick and Coup de Grace for the win. The result was perfect as the Demon persona of Balor needs to be protected. The cherry on the cake was the moment after the match when two men got up and showed each other a sign of mutual respect with a 'Too Sweet' gesture.
