5 feuds for Bobby Roode as US Champion

Becoming champion is half the battle. Staying champion, the other half.
Becoming champion is half the battle. Staying champion, the other half.

It may not have been the most exciting episode of SmackDown Live in recent memory, but judging by comments on our Facebook page, it seems that everyone's happy with the eventual outcome. Bobby Roode is the brand new WWE United States Champion.

How often have we seen WWE put the gold on a deserving contender, only to have him/her have a terrible run and have it taken from him/her, in subsequent months? The need of the hour is for Bobby Roode to have a strong title run, and stake his claim as "The Glorious One".

This article is an attempt to plot five such feuds. Let's hope that Bobby Roode gets booked with one of these superstars, in a program that can mutually benefit both parties.

Without further ado, we begin this special countdown!

#5 Dolph Ziggler

Will Dolph Ziggler come back to stake his claim, as US Champion?
Will Dolph Ziggler come back to stake his claim, as US Champion?

Let's get the most obvious choice out of the way, up front. We believe that Dolph Ziggler relinquishing the title will lead to a rather predictable plot twist soon. He will return, either next week or at the Royal Rumble to reclaim his coveted US Title. That's bound to be Bobby Roode's next feud.

Yes, of course, we are aware that we have seen the Dolph Ziggler vs Bobby Roode feud already. However, this storyline gives a fresh coat of paint to this long-standing and honestly, rather a lacklustre feud, doesn't it? It feels far more important now!

Roode is all about the big entrances and whatnot, while Ziggler has been outspoken against it, over the past weeks. The two men are incredible workers and the next match may be their best match yet.

It always helps when WWE Superstars have a storyline to draw inspiration and motivation from.

#4 Jinder Mahal

We feel that this week's program has the legs to be drawn out
We feel that this week's program has the legs to be drawn out

Jinder Mahal and Bobby Roode both wrestled twice over the course of a two-hour show, this week. Somehow when it was over and done, and Roode held the title aloft, it seemed like their story was only half told. We feel that there could be more to it than we've seen. So yes, the next name in our list is Jinder Mahal.

Mahal has grown leaps and bounds, from the performer that he once was. He has always looked dangerous but is much more confident on the microphone and a far better in-ring specialist. Sure, he's no Dolph Ziggler in the ring, but he can hold his own.

Coupled with the Singh Brothers by his side, he could be the foreign heel out to tarnish the legacy of the United States Championship. Roode embodies many aspects of the classic NWA superstars, and this could feel like a classic, old-school program if it's booked right.

It may give both performers some much-needed momentum.

#3 Rusev/Aiden English

If booked right, this could be the most over feud in the whole card
If booked right, this could be the most over feud in the whole card

Rusev Day has somehow turned from a mere idea into a real sensation. Rusev and Aiden English are over, to an unimaginable degree.

As it stands currently, Bobby Roode needs his next opponent. Rusev Day needs a real program, to ascend to the next level.

In our opinion, these two parties could tear it up. There would be an element of humour involved, of course, in their matches. But knowing how gifted these performers are, the possibilities are endless.

We believe that they can also execute a double turn.

Rusev is already cheered for, by a lot of the WWE Universe, while Roode has always been better as a heel. This is a feud that could really endow fans with great moments.

#2 Triple H

Could Bobby Roode be Triple H's WrestleMania program?
Could Bobby Roode be Triple H's WrestleMania 34 program?

Much like John Cena, we imagine Triple H is free to go to whichever brand he pleases. After all, he has the keys to the kingdom. One day, he may just take over the reins of the Empire. Also, he probably needs a good WrestleMania 34 opponent.

Who better than Bobby Roode, we ask? After all, comparisons are frequently made between the two men. In many ways, they mirror each other's rock-solid in-ring ability with super strong psychology.

Having Triple H enter into a program with him, will only elevate Roode to the next level. It may also give the WWE Universe a chance to see a feud that they never thought would transpire!

#1 Randy Orton

Randy Orton sure could use a heel turn
Randy Orton sure could use a big heel turn

Does everyone agree that the best Randy Orton is heel Randy Orton? Orton just seems completely out of sorts as a babyface, honestly. He's not been in a major program on SmackDown Live, for a while now. This is shameful, considering how much of a legend the man is.

We think that Bobby Roode and Randy Orton could have a brilliant program for the United States Championship. All Orton would have to do is go heel. In doing so, he'd revive his own career and also elevate Roode to the summit.

There you have it. Here are our five picks for Bobby Roode as United States Champion, going forward.
