5 former World Champions who could move to SmackDown Live as part of the Superstar Shakeup

Is the Superstar Shakeup the perfect time to welcome back Dean Ambrose?
Is the Superstar Shakeup the perfect time to welcome back Dean Ambrose?

The first leg of the Superstar Shakeup certainly produced the effect that it was intended to on Monday Night Raw.

There were surprise returns, shock debuts and a whole lot of uncertainty and buzz surrounding what the WWE would pull out of their hat next.

Which, in fairness, makes yesterday's episode one of the more memorable shows the WWE has put on in the recent past.

And before the weekly episodes return to the predictable dross that happens year round, we're at least sure of one more highly entertaining and charged up show of SmackDown Live tomorrow as the Superstar Shakeup comes to a conclusion.

Which Superstars will jump ship from the red brand to the blue? We'll find out soon enough.

But meanwhile, sink your teeth into this short listicle speculating five possible former World Champions who could fit the bill.

Dean Ambrose

After having been put on the shelf from December due to injury, Ambrose is being advertised for the WWE's upcoming tour of South Africa, meaning that a much-needed return to bolster Smackdown Live's roster this week can't at all be ruled out.

Ambrose has always been over with the WWE Universe and an unexpected return to action during the Shakeup will likely be met in thunderous fashion.

And with both Jinder Mahal and Bobby Roode moving to Raw yesterday, it does open up a mid to upper card slot that needs filling too.

But apart from all of that, who wouldn't like to see the third member of the Shield back in action again?

John Cena

Couldn't resist. Sorry.
Couldn't resist. Sorry.

After breaking off his engagement with Nikki Bella, John Cena is public enemy number one in the pro wrestling fraternity.

It's only too well known that the man has always been against the concept of getting married after the widely publicised divorce with college sweetheart Elizabeth Huberdeau, but breaking off his relationship with Bella after proposing to her on the world stage at WrestleMania 33 really takes some beating.

But as we know in the WWE, real-life scenarios find a way to get into programming all too often, especially one that is this widely followed.

Why I'm touching on this topic, however unrelated it may seem, is because this could be a perfect opportunity to turn Cena heel and send him over to SmackDown Live.

He's definitely going to generate massive amounts of heat for dumping Bella...so why not make use of it during the Superstar Shakeup?

Sasha Banks

Sasha Banks shines against Charlotte Flair. Might as well book them against one another...
Sasha Banks shines against Charlotte Flair. Might as well book them against one another...

Sasha Banks' feud with Bayley has been flitting between occasional patches of interest and, largely, irrelevance.

Banks hasn't really turned heel. And Bayley isn't half the babyface she was in NXT.

Perhaps it's best if the WWE separates them after all.

Plus, Banks' series of matches with Charlotte was the best thing to come out of the Women's revolution and while the WWE probably doesn't have it in them to recreate a similar story arc again, at least pitting those two against one another would work better than The Boss' current feud with Bayley.

Also, after Charlotte and Alexa Bliss won the Women's Title on both Raw and SmackDown Live, it only makes sense for Banks to do so too.

Seth Rollins

One mid card championship for another. Sounds like a fair trade.
One mid-card championship for another. Sounds like a fair trade.

The simple logic behind Seth Rollins moving to SmackDown Live, really.

Jinder Mahal brought the US Championship over to Raw, so it only makes sense for the Architect to take the Intercontinental Title the other way.

Now, if he will lose the strap on his first SmackDown Live show like the Modern Day Maharaja did on Raw remains to be seen, but for what it's worth, it's highly probable that a tough test awaits Rollins on the blue brand.

Also, Rollins is one of the top babyfaces in the WWE today and having him help AJ Styles keep SmackDown Live ticking over seems like a good bit of business, especially since Nakamura's main roster run has been largely hit or miss so far.

Roman Reigns

Reigns on SmackDown Live may rejuvenate the blue brand...and his own character
Reigns on SmackDown Live may rejuvenate the blue brand...and his own character

Let me preface this slide by saying that this is quite unlikely.

Roman Reigns is Vince McMahon's pet project and is scheduled to face Brock Lesnar at the Greatest Royal Rumble for the Universal Title, which is probably not going to SmackDown Live. (unless, of course, the plan is to have Reigns lose to Lesnar yet again)

However, giving Reigns a fresh start on SmackDown Live after being unable to usurp Lesnar on Raw, while also defeating practically everyone else, does make sense.

And it could perhaps...just maybe...give the WWE a golden opportunity to have him turn heel so that he can actually begin to get over with the WWE Universe in the long run.

Would it be a gutsy call...absolutely!

But hey, fortune does favour the brave, doesn't it?
