One of the most historic championships currently in WWE, the Intercontinental Championship has a lineage which spans decades, and consists of some of the greatest wrestlers to have ever graced the WWE ring.

Perennially known as the stepping stone for up and coming Superstars, many Superstars have held this title before going on to bigger and better things. Once regarded as the most valuable thing in WWE after the WWE Championship, sometimes even being treated as equal, it has fallen by the wayside in recent times.

However, after a troubled period in recent years, the championship has once again redeemed its prestige due to the Superstars who've held the title. We look at five of the greatest wrestlers to have held this title in WWE.

#5 The Miz

Former WWE Champion, The Miz, has brought back the prestige associated with the IC title in recent years. One of the greatest Superstars to hold the title in the modern era, the 8-time and reigning IC champion has become synonymous with the IC title.

The Miz is a former WWE Champion who never really found success on top of the card, but has made the mid-card his own. His promo on Talking Smack back in 2016 made headlines and led to him becoming a very popular Superstar in the WWE. The Miz's popularity knows no bounds, and is currently one of the finest "true" heels left in WWE.

The A-Lister is hands down a future Hall of Fame inductee, and his reigns as IC title will go down in history as some of the finest.

#4 Chris Jericho

Before The Miz came around, Chris Jericho held the Intercontinental Championship a record 9 times. His IC title runs have never made a mark for themselves, but Y2J has beaten a plethora of quality opponents over the years. One of his reigns involved him being a "co-champion" with Chyna!

Jericho is one of the greatest Superstars to have ever wrestled in this industry, and even after 25 years in this field, he continues to prove why he is the G.O.A.T.

He is a prime example of how IC runs lead to a world title run, as he won the IC title before becoming the first ever Undisputed Champion in WWE.

Hopefully, he comes back to WWE to win the elusive tenth title, and complete the perfect 10!

#3 The Honky Tonk Man

In today's generation, we have Elias; the late 80s had The Honky Tonky Man. One of the most despised heels of all time, he was so good at playing the heel role, that when his run finally came to an end, the crowd erupted in joy.

Unlike the previous two Superstars in this list, The Honky Tonk Man did not have more than one championship run, but the single run was one of the finest in history.

#2 The Ultimate Warrior

The Ultimate Warrior, along with Hulk Hogan, was one of the most popular faces of professional wrestling in the 90s. His popularity led to him becoming the Intercontinental Championship at the main event of Wrestlemania VI.

The Ultimate Warrior was not one of the best wrestlers in the world, but his energy, charisma and athleticism made him one of the finest Superstars in the company. His intercontinental championship run led to a monumental champion v champion match at WrestleMania.

#1 Razor Ramon

The Bad Guy of 90s wrestling, Razor Ramon, also known as Scott Hall, is simply one of the greatest Superstars in the professional wrestling industry. He is till date regarded as one of the finest Superstars to have never held the World Championship, but he made a name for himself with the IC belt.

Razor Ramon was involved in one of the best matches in WrestleMania history, a ladder match with another legend, Shawn Michaels, at WrestleMania X. The IC belt was never more prestigious, and both these legends took it to unparalleled heights.
