At WWE Battleground 2016, Jinder Mahal defended his WWE Championship against Randy Orton in a Punjabi Prison match. As mentioned before, The Great Khali is the man behind this unique match type. This stipulation requires a superstar to escape two massive bamboo cages.

Jinder Mahal chose this stipulation, feeling he would thrive in such an environment. However, things wouldn't be that great for the then-WWE Champion, as Randy Orton assaulted Mahal all around the dangerous cage.

The Viper comfortably got out of the first cage. However, Randy was interrupted by a returning Great Khali, who stopped him from escaping the second cage. It was an unexpected arrival that ruined Randy Orton's championship desires. Khali's interference allowed Mahal to get out of the Punjabi Prison and retain his championship.

In July 2007, Edge had to vacate his WWE World Heavyweight Championship due to an injury. WWE announced a 20 man Battle Royal to determine the new champion. Batista, MVP, Kane, and Mark Henry were some of the most prominent names who were a part of this match.

The final three men remaining in the ring were Batista, Kane and The Great Khali. As the Punjabi Playboy was too big to be eliminated, Batista and Kane decided to team up against him.

After taking out Khali, the two superstars started brawling with each other. However, Khali recovered and threw both Kane and Batista off the top rope to become the new World Champion. It was a historical win for The Great Khali, as he became the first Indian Superstar to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
