WWE Hall of Famer Edge announced his retirement following WrestleMania 27 in 2011. His injuries had gotten the better of him at that point and continuing a career in pro-wrestling would have possibly led to a disaster.

At the 2020 Royal Rumble PPV, Edge made his return to WWE as a participant in the annual free-for-all. The Rated-R Superstar had a strong showing in the match and was one of the final two competitors to get eliminated from the contest.
No one had imagined that Edge would ever be able to return as a performer, but the unthinkable somehow happened at the event. Edge later revealed how WWE kept his return a secret. He stated that the only people who knew about his return were The Revival, with whom he trained before his return, and his wife, Beth Phoenix.
Edge went on to kick off a feud with former teammate Randy Orton, leading to a Last Man Standing match at WrestleMania 36. Edge won the match, but went on to lose to Orton in "The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever" at WWE Backlash.

Given the opportunity to script WWE’s next big storyline, Abhilash would treat fans to the second installment of The Bloodline Civil War. He would book Roman Reigns to re-form The Bloodline with The Usos and Sami Zayn upon his comeback. The angle would see The Tribal Chief-led group go head-to-head with The Rock, Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu in a blockbuster family feud.
